Adam's Cleaning Services Reports an Increase in Realtors and Homeowners Using Market Prep Services as a Competitive Advantage

DEARBORN, MI -- (MARKET WIRE) -- August 28, 2006 -- With an overabundance of homes for sale in the Detroit metro area, realtors are telling homeowners that first impressions are everything if they want to sell their house. Many realtors recommend that sellers use the market prep services of companies like Adam's Cleaning Services, headquartered in Dearborn, to ensure that all the nooks and crannies are cleaned and spotless.

"In today's market, buyers are picky, and a market prep is the most important thing you can do," said Kathi Jones-Cutler of Century 21 Town & Country in Birmingham, who has been recommending Adam's Cleaning Services for nearly eight years. "They are extremely professional, conscientious and dependable, providing a lot of detailed services.

"The first impression is visual, and it starts at the curb. As soon as someone walks in the door, all five senses come into play," added Cutler, who has written "Cashing In On Design," a book about using design, staging and market prep to get top dollar for your home.

A market prep is described as a much deeper "spring" cleaning that often includes carpet and window cleaning, particularly if the house is vacant.

Adam Seccombe, owner of Adam's Cleaning Services which has 14 employees, will send out a crew of two people on most market prep jobs. Seccombe usually joins the crew if windows are to be cleaned. He reports that nearly 80 percent of the homes they prep are already vacant.

"When furniture's moved, the traffic areas become much more visible," explained Seccombe. He noted that homeowners will occasionally call after they've sold the house to contract their services. "They want to make sure it's clean for the new owners, and I always tell them that they were raised right."

Cathy Davison of Beulah, Mich., called Adam's Cleaning Services to prep her mom's mobile home in Romulus for sale. Davison explained that she chose Seccombe's company, because unlike other cleaning services, he agreed to take care of everything, including the carpet cleaning. Her mom's mobile home was only on the market a month before it sold.

"The person who sold it agreed that he'd done a fabulous job, and I didn't have to worry about anything," added Davison.

Seccombe reports that nearly 30 percent of his residential cleaning business is market preps, though that increases to nearly 70 percent in the spring.

A lot of the market prep business comes from realtor referrals including Allison Fishwick of ReMax Team 2000 in Dearborn. Fishwick, who has been in the real estate business for 13 years, started recommending Adam's Cleaning Services nearly six years ago.

"I connected with them through the Dearborn Chamber of Commerce, which gave me more confidence to use their services," said Fishwick. "I know that the buck stops with Adam. If there's something I'm not happy with or the client isn't, then I know we can talk, and it will be taken care of."
