Innovative, online member donations of Aeroplan Miles launches with an initial 12 million Aeroplan Mile donation

On behalf of its approximately five million active members, Aeroplan today unveils Beyond Miles, its program to link Aeroplan members to six outstanding non-profit organizations, as well as Air Canada's Kids' Horizons program, that are all committed to improving lives and enriching communities at home and abroad. These organizations embody a philosophy of giving back of professional skills and experience, of engagement with the global community and of going beyond the traditional gesture of donated aid.

"Beyond Miles is a program that speaks to how Canadians see their world," said Rupert Duchesne, President and CEO, Aeroplan. "They want to be connected to their planet. They desire for their country the same image of global good citizenship as they expect of themselves as citizens at home. Beyond Miles is Aeroplan's contribution to that wish."

The Beyond Miles program will enable Aeroplan members to donate Aeroplan Miles - online at - to Canadian Executive Service Organization, Engineers Without Borders, Medecins Sans Frontieres, Schools Without Borders, the Stephen Lewis Foundation and Veterinarians Without Borders. In addition to supporting these organizations, Beyond Miles also supports Air Canada's Kids' Horizons, a program dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of Canadian children and youth and their families.

These agencies and Kids' Horizons will use Aeroplan Miles to offset costs related to travel to and from projects at home and around the world. These organizations are equally acclaimed in Canada and internationally for their co- operative approach toward working with communities and institutions who invite their assistance and for building better futures for the people whose lives they touch. In some instances they also respond to catastrophic events by rebuilding ravaged social and physical environments, and by providing transportation support for medical treatment.

For all these organizations, travel is fundamental to their operations and one of the most significant costs of their work. Aeroplan launches the project by contributing more than one million Aeroplan Miles to each of the participating organizations. Aeroplan's partners, American Express and CIBC, have also generously contributed to the launch with a combined donation of more than four million Aeroplan Miles, for a total initial donation of twelve million Aeroplan Miles.

Beyond Miles also will facilitate innovative communication - via - between the organizations and Aeroplan members, providing Canadians with opportunities to learn in detail about the organizations' projects, to offer additional resources and expertise and to invite representatives to speak about their work to community and school groups.
