After 40 Years, Grand Prairie Businessman to Auction Homes, Business to Return to Native Haiti

DALLAS, TX--(Marketwire - February 16, 2010) -  Dallas-based auctioneer Guy Hodges has sold hundreds of homes and businesses, but the three-day auction coming up Feb. 26-28 is one he'll remember the rest of his life. That's when his firm will sell two homes and a business for Orlando Alexis, who is liquidating most of his belongings to return to his childhood home of Haiti to help with earthquake relief efforts.

"When I heard his story, I had to do what I could to help," said Hodges, president of Worldwide Auction Group, which will sell Alexis's homes in Grand Prairie and Arlington, as well as his business, Sell for Less Stores.

Alexis and his wife, Merial, plan to go to Haiti under the aegis of a Florida-based mission agency. Once there, they intend to use the money from the auction to aid relief efforts and bring his mother back to Texas.

"They told me they want to be free to pursue their relief work in Haiti without worrying about their homes and business back in Texas. They're making a remarkable sacrifice," said Hodges, who recruited a team of auctioneers from the area to handle the sale without compensation.

The sale will include a four-bedroom home at 819 Elbe Drive in Arlington; a five-bedroom home at 5087 Kite Road in Grand Prairie; and the business at 2707 S. Cooper St. Suite 103 Arlington, TX 76015, according to Hodges.

Orlando, 47, left Haiti four decades ago when his parents divorced and he went to join his father in New York. He hasn't been back since. In his last contact with his mother, she had survived the earthquake but was homeless, like so many others there.

"It's hard to imagine what they're going to encounter when they get there, but I'm hopeful we can get a good enough price for the homes and business to at least make sure they have the financial resources to accomplish what they need to do," said Hodges.

Individuals interested in additional information in the homes and business may call Hodges at 972-672-8725.
