AirTight Networks Extends the Wireless Perimeter Through SpectraGuard Security Agent for Endpoints (SAFE)

Provides Solution for Microsoft Windows Wireless Vulnerability Reported Last Week

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- January 24, 2006 -- AirTight Networks™, the leader in wireless perimeter security solutions, today released Release 1.0 of its pioneering SpectraGuard® SAFE (Security Agent For Endpoints) wireless perimeter security product. SpectraGuard SAFE software extends the reach of AirTight's wireless perimeter security solution -- to wherever a laptop user may go -- such as their home, an airport or airplane, a hotel, a convention center, the ballpark, or another office. It prevents the Microsoft Windows wireless connection vulnerability that was reported at the SchmooCon conference last week.

SpectraGuard SAFE software provides wireless security for mobile users. It controls the wireless connections that are established from any device running the SAFE software. It can allow or prevent device connectivity over a range of wireless network options -- 802.11, Bluetooth, EvDo, etc. It also manages the specific service providers and/or security options that are required on each of these connections. Unlike other solutions, it allows the user and/or network administrator to set different policies for when the device is "at work," "at home," or "away."

SpectraGuard SAFE software extends AirTight's patent-pending 3x3 security model -- from the enterprise to the laptop. AirTight's family of SpectraGuard products all build on this foundation of 3x3 security. 3x3 security means that the system:

-- performs the 3 keys of wireless security -
-- detects & classifies threats quickly and accurately
       -- prevents threats automatically
-- locates threats accurately and immediately
-- using 3 security classification engines
-- positive, stateful device & network awareness
       -- signature based analysis
       -- behavioral based analysis
This 3 x 3 security model allows AirTight's SpectraGuard products to deliver true enterprise class threat prevention, while not inundating the administrator with false alarms or spurious data.

AirTight was the first company to extend the concept of perimeter security to the wireless domain. The 2005 CSI/FBI study reports that 97+% of all US enterprises have wired perimeter security solutions in place today. However, only a small fraction of them have implemented similar or equivalent solutions to protect their wireless perimeter. AirTight has defined 8 broad categories of wireless threats, and over 200 specific attacks within these 8 categories -- that the SpectraGuard family of products detects and prevents.

AirTight's wireless perimeter security solutions extend the concepts of classic wired perimeter security to fully acknowledge wireless connections and the risks associated with the proliferation of wireless-enabled devices -- ranging from laptops to cellphones/PDAs to medical equipment and surveillance cameras. AirTight provides an enterprise with an ability to centrally define policies, monitor, and actively manage the wireless connections from any of these devices -- at any point on the globe.

"AirTight's new product addresses the need for upper-layer security solutions that are independent of the specific wireless network being used," said Craig J. Mathias, a Principal with the wireless and mobile advisory firm Farpoint Group (Ashland, MA). "Such an approach provides uniformity, auditability, and, perhaps most importantly, the ease-of-use that ensures security systems really get used in the field."

SpectraGuard SAFE software Release 1.0 runs on Microsoft Windows software and a wide variety of PC hardware, and is compatible with wide variety of WLAN and other wireless service cards.

SpectraGuard SAFE software comes in two versions -- a Personal Edition and an Enterprise Edition. The Personal Edition can be downloaded and used by any individual -- at no charge. A trial version is available now for download on the AirTight Networks website. (

The SpectraGuard SAFE Enterprise Edition links into AirTight's SpectraGuard Enterprise solution -- for those organizations that want to deploy uniform wireless perimeter security policies across their portable devices. It is in beta now, and will be generally available in later in Q1 2006.

"AirTight is proud to be able to extend the benefits of secure wireless network access control for free -- to the greater community," said David King, Chairman and CEO of AirTight Networks. "We've also received great feedback from our enterprise customers on the ability to manage this connectivity from a single user interface."
