Millions of avid travellers recently told TripAdvisor - the world's largest travel community - that Alberta deserved top marks for our other outdoor recreational hubs and cultural surprises we had to take note.

Scouring the world for real adventure, epic journeys and cultural hotspots, TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice Destinations Awards for 2010 named Banff as the No. 1 destination in Canada and No. 4 in the world for outdoor activities and adventures. Must be the 1,500 km of hiking trails in Banff National Park or the multi-day horse packing expeditions - or it could be that one of the planet's most scenic drives (the Icefields Parkway) is right here as are our award-winning historical backcountry lodges (Skoki, Shadow, Sundance, Shovel Pass), tea houses, glacier tromps and amazing wildlife viewing.

Hailed as the "unbiased voice of the independent traveller," TripAdvisor honoured Canmore with the No. 4 spot in the outdoor and adventure category for Canada - for its superb network of mountain biking and cross-country ski loops at the Canmore Nordic Centre. Plus its gritty bike races (24 Hours of Adrenalin, TranRockies Challenge and the Iron Lung Alberta Cup) and its heart-thudding Nordic World Cup races. Jasper was on its heels in the No. 5 spot with travellers loving this laid-back alpine town and national park for its lazy lakes, gnarly whitewater, mountain biking, golfing, Marmot Basin ski area and overall family-friendly activities.

In Canada's Top 25 Destinations category, Banff, Jasper and Canmore snagged honours again as did Calgary and Edmonton. From the Calgary Stampede to luxurious new boutique hotels (Le Germain) and elegant restaurants (Rouge just won a spot on the S. Pellegrino World's 100 Best Restaurants list), Calgary stole No. 12 in Canada's Top 25 list. Edmonton ranked No. 13 for its status as the nation's "Festival City," for owning the world's largest indoor shopping and entertainment complex (WEM), its stunning river valley and the new Art Gallery of Alberta.

We want to hear from you... give us the goods on your favourite campsite in Alberta, best spot for a picnic, greatest mountain bike loop, where you like to do sun salutations at dawn, best beach, or it could be your flat-out favourite stretch of whitewater. We'll post your honour roll on our Facebook page. Join our group and share your top picks.
