ATCO's Celebrating Excellence program is in its final stretch with just seven days left for Alberta students to get a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

"The Celebrating Excellence Program celebrates the good things Alberta's youth are doing," said Nancy Southern, President and CEO, ATCO Group. "Based on the submissions we have received so far, countless young Albertans are striving for excellence and making a difference in their communities. It is incredibly heartwarming when you read their compositions and realize the many diverse ways in which our young people are contributing."

Students in Grades 4 through 12 are invited to submit short compositions (150-650 words) explaining what they are doing to demonstrate leadership or their commitment to community. It can be through sport, the arts, culture, education or volunteer work. So far, submissions have ranged from shoveling snow for an elderly neighbor, to helping educate people around the issue of bullying. Some are giving 100 percent to their sport teams while others are trying to make a positive difference in their schools. For their efforts, hundreds will be rewarded.

"Many young Albertans are making a positive difference in their communities", said Cindy Ady, Minister of Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation. "We want them to share their inspiring stories and to continue their great work to create a strong future for our province."

The Alberta Government and WinSport Canada are both partners in the Celebrating Excellence Program. Together with ATCO, they will be rewarding 166 students with a trip to the Winter Games in Vancouver (one boy and one girl from every riding in Alberta) while 83 runners-up will receive laptop computers. Submissions must be emailed or postmarked before midnight, January 5, 2010. The draw will be made during the week of January 11th. Full details can be found at www.atco.com.
