Alberta's Minister of Finance & Enterprise to Address Economic Club of Canada

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 16, 2009) - The changing economic landscape has brought new fiscal, economic, and environmental challenges, and Alberta is prepared to meet them. With its strong resource base, coupled with an entrepreneurial culture, a highly educated workforce, and one of the most competitive tax systems in North America, Alberta embodies opportunity even in challenging times, and will emerge from the downturn stronger than before. As a leading supplier of responsibly developed energy, Alberta has the resources needed for global economic recovery, as well as long-term opportunity in the form of one of the largest proven energy reserves on Earth- opportunity that stretches beyond provincial and even national borders. Short-term savings and borrowing for infrastructure will help Alberta through the downturn, while longer-term measures will address concerns such as green house gas emissions, supporting a vision for the province as a global environmental citizen. Alberta's Minister of Finance and Enterprise, Iris Evans, will speak about these opportunities, about how prudent action and sound planning put Alberta in a position of strength before the downturn, and how a balanced approach will lead the way forward, furthering a fundamentally strong provincial economy in an increasingly connected global marketplace.
