Alcool NB Liquor customers donate more than $30,000 to MADD Canada

Attention: City Editor, News Editor OAKVILLE/ONTARIO/MEDIA RELEASE--(Marketwire - Sept. 15, 2009) - Alcool NB Liquor and its customers demonstrated their extraordinary commitment to the fight against impaired driving earlier this month, raising more than $30,000 in just one weekend.

Alcool NB Liquor held a prompted donation appeal during which staff asked customers to make a donation to MADD Canada while making their purchases. The response was overwhelming.

"Alcool NB Liquor is proud to support MADD Canada's efforts to stop impaired driving," said Dana Clendenning, President and CEO, Alcool NB Liquor. "On the weekend of September 3-5, our retail staff collected $30,587 in donations from New Brunswickers. This is a clear indication of the interest in MADD Canada's mandate and I would personally like to thank the public for supporting this important community cause."

The funds will be used to support the delivery of MADD Canada's High School Multi-Media Assembly Program to high schools throughout New Brunswick and the Campaign 911 partnership with local police services to encourage the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911.

"On behalf of MADD Canada and our Chapters and Community Leaders in New Brunswick, I would like to thank Alcool NB Liquor, its staff and its customers for this generous donation and for their commitment to helping us stop impaired driving," said MADD Canada National President Margaret Miller.

The long-standing partnership between MADD Canada and Alcool NB Liquor began more than 12 years ago when the corporation joined the annual Project Red Ribbon campaign. Earlier this year, the corporation helped MADD Canada launch Campaign 911 in New Brunswick. More recently, Alcool NB Liquor announced its plan to donate a portion of the proceeds from sales of its new re-usable, recyclable shopping bags to MADD Canada. Later this month, Alcool NB Liquor will sponsor the national launch and provincial delivery of MADD Canada's first-ever French High School Multi-Media Program, Fini.
