Alliance for Regenerative Medicine (ARM) Statement on the Federal District Court's Injunction Halting Federal Funding for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research

Major Setback for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwire - August 24, 2010) - The Alliance for Regenerative Medicine (ARM), the advocacy voice for regenerative medicine and cell therapy, issued the following statement about the August 23, 2010 Federal District Court's ruling blocking federal funding for human embryonic stem cell research:

"Regenerative medicine, which includes the use of human embryonic stem cells, has the potential to shift the treatment paradigm for many diseases from palliative to curative, and to reduce the burden of chronic diseases. The Federal District Court's ruling to block federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research will inhibit critical research that has consistently demonstrated for over a decade that it has the potential to significantly improve patients' lives. The regenerative medicine community believes all promising avenues of research should be pursued and therefore hopes this ruling will not be upheld, and that funding for human embryonic stem cell research will continue."

The Alliance for Regenerative Medicine (ARM) is a Washington, DC-based non-profit organization that promotes legislative, regulatory and reimbursement initiatives necessary to facilitate access to life-giving advances in regenerative medicine.
