AltaLink Expands Commitment to Alberta's Rural Youth

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - Jan. 7, 2008) -

AltaLink, Alberta's transmission leader, is extending its partnership with one of the largest and most celebrated organizations in our province, Alberta 4-H.

AltaLink is committing to provide more than $300,000 to Alberta 4-H over the next three years. AltaLink is now at the highest level of sponsorship, a Legacy Builder, and is providing Alberta 4-H with funds and in-kind services to the end of 2010.

"We're excited to continue with our support of 4-H," says Scott Thon, President and CEO of AltaLink. "The partnership gives AltaLink the opportunity to work with a great organization in rural Alberta, where the majority of our operations take place, and we find tremendous value in being able to give back to the communities in which we work."

"AltaLink and Alberta 4-H share the same values - supporting rural communities and facilitating the development of our province's youth," says Bruce Banks, Chief Executive Officer of the 4-H Foundation of Alberta. "We're pleased to be extending our partnership with AltaLink."

AltaLink is the new title sponsor of all regional, district and provincial communications and public speaking programs. The communication programs are a unique part of the Alberta 4-H organization, which help to prepare the province's youth for their careers.

"We are particularly happy to be the title sponsor of the communications and public speaking programs, areas that are vitally important for the success of our youth in today's world," says Mr. Thon. "Members of 4-H finish the program as engaging, articulate leaders with a head start for their futures."

Alberta 4-H has been an integral part of Alberta communities since 1917, with deep-rooted history and tradition that stems back to the efforts of individuals that formed the very first club for boys and girls in our province. Alberta 4-H develops leadership, communication, technical and life skills of 4-H members and leaders to strengthen communities - it is young people and adults learning project and life skills, cooperating and having fun together, sharing leadership and learning to do by doing.

AltaLink, Canada's only fully independent transmission provider, is responsible for the maintenance and operation of more than 11,600 kilometres of transmission lines and approximately 260 substations in Alberta. As Alberta's largest supplier of safe and reliable transmission, AltaLink is moving forward to provide a transmission system that will continue to meet the needs of Albertans. AltaLink has been a proud supporter of Alberta 4-H since 2003, and as a Legacy Builder it is the title sponsor of all regional, district and provincial communications and public speaking programs.
