AltaLink Seeks Albertans' Input for Transmission Line Development

CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwire - May 4, 2010) -

NOT FOR DISSEMINATION IN THE UNITED STATES

AltaLink, Alberta's largest electricity transmission company, is focused on consulting with Albertans on new, critically-needed transmission lines. During the first three months of 2010, AltaLink made contact with more than 50,000 Albertans to provide them with information, answer questions and get their input on the projects.

"Consultation is a core value of how we develop projects at AltaLink," said Scott Thon, AltaLink President and CEO. "It is only through meeting with Albertans and listening to their concerns, that we can truly develop the best proposals for new transmission lines that will benefit our province."

In the first three months of 2010 alone, AltaLink mailed more than 50,000 project information packages to stakeholders and held one-on-one meetings via open houses or personal meetings with another 3,000. Project information is also available by visiting www.albertaelectricityfuture.ca.

The decision to incrementally stage the development of new transmission projects in Alberta, including the Western Alberta Transmission Line and the Southern Alberta Transmission Reinforcement, ensures that the transmission system grows only as Alberta's demand for electricity grows, allowing for new projects to emerge as needed rather than overbuilding the current transmission system.

While consultation continues in earnest on new projects, AltaLink is also in the midst of construction of the Southwest 240 kV Project between Pincher Creek and Lethbridge to allow more wind generation onto the Alberta grid.

"Without new transmission lines, the wind power sector in southern Alberta can't develop," said Mr. Thon. "The Southwest 240 kV project is the important first step in providing Albertans with access to new, green wind energy in 2010."

AltaLink, L.P. today reported its financial results for the first quarter ended March 31, 2010. The Partnership earned a net income of $17.1 million for the quarter, an increase of $5.0 million over the corresponding period in 2009. The Partnership's return on rate base increased due to growth in its transmission assets. The net income reported above is pre-tax, and is not directly comparable with net income reported by companies that recognize tax expenses in their financial statements.

AltaLink's full financial results and management's discussion and analysis can be found on AltaLink's website at www.altalink.ca or on SEDAR at www.sedar.com.
