Amazon Appoints Dr. Marcello Veiga to Technical Advisory Committee

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 30, 2009) -

NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION TO U.S. NEWSWIRE SERVICES OR FOR DISSEMINATION IN THE UNITED STATES

Amazon Mining Holding Plc (TSX VENTURE:AMZ) ("Amazon" or the "Company"), is pleased to announce Dr. Marcello Veiga has agreed to join its Technical Advisory Committee ("TAC"). Dr Veiga, a metallurgical engineer and environmental geochemist, brings valuable verdete slate expertise and experience acquired when working for Vale and Paulo Abib Engenharia. Dr. Veiga will assist Amazon in exploring the full potential of verdete slate as an innovative source of potash as well as assisting on the interpretation of results that will be produced by Brazil's Centre for Mineral Technology (See Press Release 05 May 2009).

Cerrado Verde Potash Project ("Cerrado Verde") is a source of abundant and accessible verdete slate, a potash rich rock from which Amazon plans to produce a slow-release, non-chloride, multi-nutrient, fertilizer product. The property is located in one of Brazil's most important agriculture regions at Minas Gerais state.

Dr. Veiga has worked for the past 31 years as a metallurgical engineer and environmental geochemist for mining and consulting companies in Brazil, Canada, US, Venezuela, Chile and Peru.. Since 1997, Dr. Veiga has been an associate professor of the Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Canada and between 2002 and 2008, worked as an expert and Chief Technical Advisor to the GEF/UNDP/UNIDO Global Mercury Project for UNIDO; the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, in Vienna.

Notably, Dr. Veiga worked on a Vale project in 1987 for Thermophosphate Potash. The study included pilot plant production and agronomic tests. Verdete was used as a potash source for Thermophosphate to make a multinutrient fertilizer. Thermophosphate is a premium phosphate fertilizer that has been produced in Brazil since 1968 by Fertilizantes Mitsui S.A. a subsidiary of Mitsui & Co., Ltd.

Commenting on the contribution to Amazon, Dr. Veiga said he expects to "help in tests to extract potassium via hydrometallurgical processes and evaluate the pyrometallurgical routes being tested by different institutions."

Amazon is issuing 50,000 share purchase options exercisable at $0.30 to Dr. Marcello Veiga, pending TSX regulatory approval.
