Ambulance Paramedics of BC: Paramedics Collect Over
$113,000.00 for Tsunami Relief
RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 11, 2005) - During a
2-day collection drive BC's Ambulance Paramedics collected over a
hundred and thirteen thousand dollars for Canadian Red Cross Tsunami
relief efforts. Paramedics from across British Columbia volunteered
their time for the collection drive held on January 5th, and 6th, 2005.
"On behalf of the paramedics I would like to thank the people of British
Columbia for their generosity and support," said Stuart Myers, Public
Education Director, Ambulance Paramedics of BC (APBC), CUPE Local 873.
"This has been a tragic event, that despite being thousands of miles
away has touched us all," he added.
"The British Columbia Ambulance Service (BCAS) is extremely proud of the
initiative shown by paramedics across the province in helping to
galvanize communities generous support of international relief efforts
like the Red Cross," said David Morhart, Chief Executive Officer BCAS.
Paramedics will make a presentation at the Red Cross Headquarters
located at 3400 Lake City Way, Burnaby, B.C. at 04:30 pm, January 11,
2005. Attending the presentation will be; John Strohmaier, Provincial
President, APBC; David Morhart, Chief Executive Officer, BCAS, Micheal
Sanderson, BCAS Regional Director, Marilyn Oberg, APBC/BCAS Coordinator,
Tsunami relief collection drive.
The money collected is consistent with eligibility criteria for fund
matching by the federal government Canadian International Development
Agency (CIDA) International Humanitarian Assistance (IHA) program,
totaling over $226,000.00 raised for relief efforts.
