America's Premier Mud Run Arrives in Greater Delaware Valley

Mud Run Brandywine Hopes to Attract 1,000 Participants to Get Dirty for MS

PHILADELPHIA, PA--(Marketwire - April 15, 2010) -  Hundreds of runners will slip, slide and slosh their way to a world free of multiple sclerosis on June 12 at Mud Run Brandywine, benefiting the National MS Society.

The event in Newtown Square, Pa. promises to be an unforgettable day of fun in the great outdoors. This area offers a beautiful scenic backdrop and natural obstacles that, combined with man-made challenges, will make for a truly unique 10k course.

Mud Run Brandywine isn't for the faint of heart; it's for people who are tired of the standard road race or working out at the gym, for people who crave a different way to make a difference.

For the serious runner or endurance athlete, Mud Run Brandywine will test every aspect of your physical fitness. For the rest of us, it's a chance to challenge ourselves and play in the mud with friends while moving toward a world free of MS. Teams and individuals are welcome. We're also inviting personal trainers from across the region to create teams of clients and compete for the bragging rights of Philly's best personal trainer.

The National MS Society is hosting Mud Run Brandywine in conjunction with Two Circles, organizer of premier events including the Dallas/Fort Worth Mud Run, which celebrated its 10th anniversary last fall. For the Brandywine race's inaugural year, organizers have set an ambitious goal of 1,000 participants and $110,000 in fundraising to benefit 400,000 Americans living with MS.

Lisa Caramandi, a breast cancer survivor, is taking on Mud Run MS to combine her interest in boot camp-style fitness with her desire to do good. "When I see events going on for people that need help, I'm one of the first to give back," said Caramandi, 49. "I love getting my hands in things like that to help others."

Standing just 5'2, Caramandi knows the obstacles will be a challenge, but she's excited about the experience and the opportunity to compete with her Boot Camp Challenge teammates. "It's going to be so much fun, and for the cause itself, it's going to be worth it," she said.

Friends, families and donors are welcome to come out on race day to cheer for their runners and join the muddy fun. More than 250 volunteers also will be needed before, during and after the event to set up and break down obstacles, hand out shirts, help with registration and more.
