Analyst Reports on Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) & Dell (NASDAQ: DELL) -- Will Microchip Shortages Squeeze Profits?

Note to Editors: The Following Is an Investment Opinion Being Issued by The Bedford Report

TORONTO--(Marketwire - August 25, 2010) -  The Bedford Report analyst team is looking at the Personal Computers Industry and has issued Analyst Reports on Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) and Dell Inc. (NASDAQ: DELL). Access to the full company reports can be found at

After dismal 2009 figures led microchip manufacturers to slash investment in production by 41%, a strong rebound in 2010 has left Consumer Electronic Manufacturers feeling the pinch as chip makers are unable to fill orders. Given that it takes months to increase production to higher levels, the shortages are expected to continue for the foreseeable future, possibly leading to higher prices for Personal Computers and Consumer Electronics.

The widespread difficulties by companies to meet demand for consumer electronics may bode well for Apple, who is reportedly not experiencing supply side shortages to the same extent as their competitors. This advantage is greatest in the Smartphone market, where Apple's rivals are unable to produce enough phones to compete with the iPhone, and is a problem that is expected to persist thru the important holiday season.

After reporting earnings that dramatically eclipsed analyst estimates, Apple has been exceptionally aggressive in issuing their next quarter guidance, calling for $18 billion in revenues, well above analyst estimates. Dell also reported strong earnings for the last quarter, with revenue increasing 21% from last year to $14.9 billion. The company recently issued guidance calling for revenue for 2011 to increase from the previous year by 14% to 19% overall.
