Appointment to the Blue Water Bridge Authority

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 6, 2009) - Canada's Transport Minister John Baird today announced the appointment of Ms. Cathy Newman of Wyoming, Ontario, to the board of directors of the Blue Water Bridge Authority for a term of three years, effective November 1, 2009.

"Ms. Newman's extensive business and accounting experience, coupled with her strong analytical and organizational skills, will be a real asset to the Blue Water Bridge Authority's board and its mandate," said Baird.

"I am pleased that Ms. Newman has agreed to serve on the board of the Blue Water Bridge Corporation," added Minister of State (Transport) Rob Merrifield. "Her knowledge of the local community will be a strong asset to the board moving forward."

Ms. Newman holds a bachelor of accounting science from the University of Calgary. After graduating, she began working for NOVA Chemicals, a company that develops and manufactures chemicals and plastics for the global market. In 1998, having been promoted to successively senior positions, Ms. Newman assumed the role of business information analyst, and in 2006 she became the company's regional accountant, a position she holds today. Active in the community, Ms. Newman also manages the finances and plans events for the Sarnia Chapter of the Star Touring and Riding Association, an international family motorcycle riding organization. In recognition of her professional excellence and community service, Ms. Newman was recently honoured with the Certified General Accountants of Ontario's Distinguished Service Award.

The Blue Water Bridge Authority, which has a four-member board of directors, is the owner and operator of the Canadian side of the Blue Water Bridge. The Michigan Department of Transportation owns and operates the American side. The bridge, which has existed since 1938, spans the St. Clair River between Point Edward, Ontario, and Port Huron, Michigan.
