Appointment to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 15, 2009) - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Stuart A. Murray as the first Director of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.

"I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Murray," said Minister Moore. "With his proven track record in leadership, management, and fundraising, Mr. Murray brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to the Museum."

Mr. Murray has been President and Chief Executive Officer of the St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation since 2006. Through his strategic vision, Mr. Murray introduced original and innovative marketing and fundraising initiatives, while establishing strong partnerships to enhance public awareness within the community. During his eleven years at Domo Gasoline Corporation, he served as Vice-President and then President and CEO and contributed to the company's growth by achieving $130 million in annual sales while leading a team of 600 members.

Mr. Murray was Leader of the Opposition in the Manitoba legislature from 2000 to 2006. He has sat on several boards of directors, including those of the Canadian National Railway, the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. He was also Chairperson of the CN Tower Board of Directors and the successful 1999 World Junior Hockey Championship. Mr. Murray holds a diploma in Architectural Science from Ryerson Polytechnical Institute in Toronto.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights is Canada's first federal museum devoted to the topic of human rights.
