Appointment to the Canadian Museum of Civilization Board of Trustees

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 7, 2009) - The Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, today announced the appointment of Fiona Robin as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

"I am pleased that Ms. Robin has accepted to serve on the Board of Trustees," said Minister Moore. "Her legal expertise and experience working on social issues in Canada will be very beneficial to the Board."

Fiona Robin is a graduate of the University of British Columbia Law School and was called to the B.C. Bar in 2000. Ms. Robin is currently a partner with Shuman Daltrop Basran & Robin, a Vancouver-based family law firm. Prior to practicing law, she held special assistant positions within the Government of Canada, providing advice to the Minister of Indian and Northern Affairs on issues related to land claims, land use and social issues, and to the Solicitor General of Canada on issues pertaining to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and enforcement policy.

Ms. Robin plays an active role within the legal community. She is a founding member of the Family Law Advocates Group and the author of several articles about continuing legal education on family law.

Ms. Robin is on the Board of the Developmental Disabilities Foundation, the purpose of which is to enhance the quality of life for persons with developmental disabilities.
