Appointments to the Toronto Port Authority

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 2, 2009) - Canada's Transport Minister John Baird today announced the appointment of Mr. G. Mark Curry of Toronto and Mr. Robert D. Poirier of Oakville, Ontario, to the Toronto Port Authority's board of directors for a term of three years each, effective September 1, 2009.

"I am pleased that Mr. Curry and Mr. Poirier have both agreed to serve on the board of the Toronto Port Authority," said Baird. "Their combined business experience will be an important asset."

Mr. Curry has been president of Revmar Inc., an investment consulting firm located in Toronto, since 1980. He has been involved in international investment consulting and institutional equity throughout his career, which began in 1969. He has also served as a director of several public and private Canadian companies. Currently, he is a director of EGI Financial Holdings and Sargasso Capital Corporation. Mr. Curry has a bachelor of arts and economics degree from Stanford University and a master of business administration from the University of Western Ontario.

Mr. Poirier holds a bachelor of business management degree from Ryerson Polytechnic Institute in Toronto. He has served as a senior manager with the Bank of Montreal, where he developed electronic business strategies. Subsequently, he became a client vice-president, financial solutions, with Bell Canada Enterprises. Since 2006, he has been vice-president and corporate officer, relationship management and sales, with State Street Financial in Toronto.

The Toronto Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established to manage the Port of Toronto effective July 1, 1999, under the Canada Marine Act. Seventeen CPAs now make up Canada's national port system. The CPAs are non-share capital corporations incorporated under the Canada Marine Act that are of strategic significance to Canada's trade. Their effective operation contributes to our global competitiveness.
