The Arthritis Society Invests 8 Million Dollars in Research of Which 2.1 Million is Devoted to Four Research Centres in Quebec

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Oct. 12, 2005) -

Quebec, a major player in Canadian arthritis research.

The Arthritis Society invests 8 million dollars into Canadian arthritis research in 2005-2006, of which 2.1 million is devoted to four research centres in Quebec, and a researcher belonging to the Armand Frappier Institute. According to the Quebec Division's Executive Director, Andy Chabot - thanks to the quality and diversity of the research projects presented by Quebec researchers, close to one quarter of the sum invested in Canada will go to Quebec.

To pay tribute to researchers and achnoweldge their contribution to the advanced development of arthritis knowledge, The Society is hosting an award ceremony today, at 5.00 pm in its offices at 380, St-Antoine Street West, Suite 3280.

Some 28 Quebec researchers will receive their grant to help them pursue their research projects. The researchers are based in the following University research centres: McGill, Montreal, Sherbrooke, Laval, and the Armand Frappier Institute.
