Artimi Achieves WiMedia Platform Certification

Development Kit Delivers Interoperability, 'Zero Install' Convenience, and the Highest Real User Throughput for Ultra-Wideband (UWB) Implementations

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - October 8, 2007) - Artimi, developer of wireless semiconductors for portable consumer electronics, has received WiMedia® Alliance Platform Certification for the Artimi A-150 Development Kit. This platform certification indicates Artimi's WiMedia-based technology has passed rigorous testing for UWB coexistence, quality and performance, as well as interoperability in a multi-vendor environment. Artimi already offers manufacturers of portable consumer electronics ease-of-use, minimal integration effort and reduced time-to-market. With its platform certification, the company also delivers certified functionality, interoperability and coexistence for any Wireless USB, high-speed Bluetooth®, or WiMedia Link Layer Control Protocol (WLP) implementation.

While all WiMedia certified chips confirm to the 480 Mbps rate specification for UWB, Artimi is the only company to have achieved real user throughput in excess of 100 Mbps, giving consumers better than wired performance for their wireless media transfer. Adding further to the consumer's experience is Artimi's 'zero install' capability. Unlike other products, Artimi provides built-in drivers, so consumers don't have to install any software to enjoy the speed and ease of Wireless USB connectivity. This built-in capability also makes product development faster and easier for manufacturers.

The WiMedia-certified Artimi A-150 Development Kit uses the Artimi A-150 MAC and supports any WiMedia-compliant third-party PHY. The A-150 MAC is a highly flexible, multi-mode, low power, programmable platform for the development of high-speed wireless consumer electronics devices using WiMedia®-based Certified Wireless USB and high-speed Bluetooth. "Artimi's A-150 forms the foundation for a consumer-friendly Wireless USB or high-speed Bluetooth implementation," says Colin Macnab, CEO of Artimi. "Key for adoption of any wireless technology like UWB is to make it ultra simple for consumers. We have focused on delivering ease-of-use for both consumers and manufacturers since day one. We're very proud of achieving the WiMedia Platform Certification and it is validation of our interoperability and performance."
