Artistic and Business Communities Get Together for
Gilles Carle Tribute

MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 27, 2005) - In an initiative
spearheaded by Quebecor and Ex-Centris, Quebec's artistic and business
communities are joining forces to pay tribute to Gilles Carle's work and
to raise money to express their gratitude to the Quebec filmmaking
legend.

The co-presidents of the "Tribute to Gilles Carle" evening, Daniel
Langlois, President and founder of Ex-Centris, and Pierre-Karl Peladeau,
President and Chief Executive Officer of Quebecor Inc., have signed up
28 honorary patrons from the filmmaking, artistic and business
communities, who have generously agreed to coordinate their efforts to
help make the event a success: Denys Arcand, Luc Beauregard, Charles
Belanger, Charles Biname, Andre Caille, Luc Chatelain, Pierre Curzi,
Jean-Pierre Desrosiers, Jacques Dorion, Roger Frappier, Claude Gagnon,
Guy Gagnon, Aldo Giampaolo, Serge Gouin, Ian Greenberg, Sylvie Lalande,
Fabienne Larouche, Francois Macerola, Pierre Marchand, Denis Martel, The
Right Honourable Brian Mulroney, Michel Ostiguy, Andre Picard,
Jean-Francois Pouliot, Denise Robert, Gilbert Rozon, Louise Spickler and
Michel Trudel.

Gilles Carle dedicated his life to his art; in all, he made 47 films and
documentaries. Then, as many people know, at the beginning of the 1990s,
he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Gilles Carle had spent the
bulk of his savings on the production of his films and today, 15 years
later, he finds himself in dire financial straits. Because of his state
of health, he requires specialized treatment and 24-hour nursing care.
Gilles Carle is a national treasure, a part of our living heritage. He
deserves the support of the cultural and business communities today to
help give him a more decent quality of life.

The "Tribute to Gilles Carle" gala will begin at 6:00 p.m. on February
24, 2005 at the Ex-Centris complex, a temple of avant-garde cinema,
located at 3536 Saint-Laurent Blvd., Montreal.

The gala is being organized by Ex-Centris and Quebecor, in collaboration
with Aldo Giampaolo's team, which is producing the show. Guests will
have an ideal setting to enjoy the tribute and demonstrate their support
for Gilles Carle. The organizers thank Chloe Sainte-Marie for her
unflagging support for the event.
