Ashley Laurent Announces Availability of BroadWay ISS Version 2.1 for Freescale PowerQUICC™ Processors

Complete "Out-of-the-Box" Solution for Enterprise-Grade Business Networks Delivers Wire-Speed Performance on Freescale PowerQUICC™ III Communications Processors

AUSTIN, TX -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 9, 2005 -- Ashley Laurent ("AL"), a leading provider of network enabled embedded software solutions, today announced general availability of its latest version of BroadWay ISS. The new version includes more enterprise grade features, such as a Zone based security model, which allows flexible configuration and more granular access control. This flexibility extends to DiffServ based QoS, Radius client, Various multicast & unicast routing protocols e.g. IGMP, PIMDM, and RIP, with additional support for VPN, IPsec/GRE deployment including complicated topology and Local or centralized user account management.

"BroadWay ISS 2.1 is a major step forward to address the current needs of customers that have business networks containing hundreds to thousands of users." said Jeffrey Goodwin, Chairman and CEO of AL. "BroadWay ISS 2.1 is a software solution for Internet gateways and VPN routers that delivers enterprise grade features, reliability and performance needed for mission critical business applications such as secure email, web, VOIP, and more."

BroadWay ISS 2.1 has been successfully deployed into a single branch office with more than 2000 PCs. It supports up to 64,000 sessions and has been tested with over 512 simultaneous VPN tunnels.

Designed for embedded applications, BroadWay ISS 2.1 has been demonstrated on Freescale's MPC8555E and MPC8541E PowerQUICC III communications processors with integrated security. When exploiting the security acceleration capabilities of the PowerQUICC III, Broadway ISS 2.1 IPSec (3DES-HMAC-SHA-1) saturates the 100Mbps test harness at packet sizes as small as 256 bytes. Large packet IPSec performance is estimated to be greater than 400Mbps. Performance for Firewall/NAT without IPSec is line rate at all packet sizes.

"AL and Freescale are working closely together to optimize the performance of BroadWay ISS 2.1 on existing and future versions of PowerQUICC III processors," said Lakshmi Mandyam, PowerQUICC III Marketing Manager at Freescale Semiconductor. "Customers will benefit from this collaborative effort by realizing improved performance, lower costs, and faster time to market for their PowerQUICC processor-based applications."

Customers interested in evaluating BroadWay 2.1 on PowerQUICC III processors, can purchase a convenient and cost-effective reference platform made by Silicon Turnkey Express (

At no additional cost, BroadWay ISS 2.1 customers that employ Microsoft Exchange© Mail Servers, can download Microsoft AntiSpyware©, and Microsoft MailFilter and enjoy a complete price competitive "Office in a Box" solution for critical business applications and connectivity. As additional protection, the integrated support from SurfControl provides customers with real time blocking of websites that contain pornography, Spyware, worms, viruses and other content that impedes business productivity.

AL will be showcasing BroadWay ISS 2.1 functionality at the Network System Design Conference, in San Jose, CA, Oct. 19-20. A continuous demonstration of fully accelerated Broadway ISS 2.1 on the Freescale PowerQUICC III will be presented at Freescale's booth. For more information, visit
