Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC: Something Spooky at the Telus Whistler Conference Centre

WHISTLER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 24, 2007) - Just in time for Halloween, a spooky creation is being constructed at the TELUS Whistler Conference Center, as part of the Annual Conference for the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (APEGBC). Levelton Consultants Ltd. (winner of the "APEGBC Engineers' Choice Award" at the 2007 Canstruction® Vancouver event) is rebuilding their "Things Favourite" sculpture - a giant hand inspired by the Addams Family, which is constructed out of four thousand, five hundred cans of tuna!

Canstruction® Vancouver is the local chapter of the international design/build competition of canned food sculptures targeting the engineering, design, and construction industries. See www.canstructionvancouver.com or www.canstruction.com for more information.

Levelton agreed to the monumental task of rebuilding their "Things Favourite" sculpture to inspire other engineering firms to enter a team in the upcoming February 2008 Canstruction® competition. Levelton 'can-structors' are Dan Pridy, P.Eng.; Scott Cumming, EIT; Sheryl Lizaso, EIT; and Conrad Tench, EIT. The 4,500 cans used in the "Things Favourite" sculpture will be donated to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank Society (GVFBS), the producer and beneficiary of Canstruction® Vancouver. The GVFBS provides meal programs and food depots serving 25,000 people each week, 40% of whom are children. See www.foodbank.bc.ca for more information.

Founded in 1920, APEGBC is the regulatory and licensing body for the professions of engineering and geoscience and maintains high academic, experience and professional practice standards for its 24,000 members. APEGBC annually produces a conference which provides industry-leading professional development, and networking opportunities. Outstanding members of the engineering profession will be honoured at the President's Awards Gala on Friday, October 26th, at the TELUS Whistler Conference Centre. See www.apeg.bc.ca for more info.
