Astral and Kootenay Report Complete Results from 2007 Drilling on Jumping Josephine Gold Project

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 21, 2008) - Astral Mining Corporation (TSX VENTURE:AST)(PINK SHEETS:ASMGF)(FRANKFURT:A7D)(WKN# A0JDX3) ("Astral" or "the Company") and Kootenay Gold Inc. (TSX VENTURE:KTN) have now received complete assay results from the 2007 Phase II drill program on the JJ Main Gold Zone on the Jumping Josephine (JJ) Gold Project in southeast British Columbia.

Gold mineralization hosted by structurally-controlled quartz stockwork veining at the Jumping Josephine Main Zone has been intersected along 15 section lines over a strike length of 700m and to vertical depths of up to 225m below surface. Based on the encouraging results from the 2007 drilling an aggressive exploration program including significant further drilling, a 3D-IP geophysical survey and additional trenching and soil grids is being planned for 2008.

Highlights from the final batch of assays include 5.96 g/t gold over 1m from hole 07JD068 and 3.57 g/t gold over 2m from hole 07JD043. Detailed results are provided below in Table 1.

Gold Assay highlights from the complete 2007 program include:

- (1) 9.95 g/t(i) over 10m (0.290 opt(ii) over 32.8 feet) from hole 001,
including 42.61 g/t over 2m (1.243 opt over 6.56 feet)

- (2) 7.01 g/t over 19m (0.205 opt over 62.32 feet) from hole 013,
including 16.42 g/t over 5m (0.479 opt over 16.40 feet)

- (3) 15.18 g/t over 4m (0.443 opt over 13.12 feet) from hole 032,
including 56.4 g/t over 1m (1.645 opt over 3.28 feet)

- (4) 7.74 g/t over 5m (0.226 opt over 16.4 feet) from hole 034,

A map showing 2007 drillhole locations and a longitudinal section are provided on Astral's website at the following links: http://www.astralmining.com/i/pdf/2007-11-29_JJDP.pdf and http://www.astralmining.com/i/maps/LongSectionRevE_Jan2008crop.JPG. In addition a complete table of assay results from 2007 is provided at: http://www.astralmining.com/i/pdf/CompleteTable_of_Assays_JJ.pdf.

Infill aeromagnetics, geological mapping and surface geochemistry suggest that the host structure for the mineralized stockwork at JJ Main may extend for over 3km. Current information indicates the JJ Main Gold Zone has an estimated true width of up to 12.6m (41.32 feet) as evidenced by previously reported hole 07JD013 (see July 12, 2007 News Release).

Phase II drilling comprised 5,101m in 38 holes on the JJ Main Zone bringing the total to date for the JJ Main Zone to 6,531m in 58 holes and the total for the JJ Project overall to 7,727m in 69 holes. The balance of un-released assay results are contained in this release. A detailed interpretation of the 2007 drilling and compilation of mapping is nearing completion and planning of drill holes for the upcoming 2008 program will be finalized shortly.

Technical Details

All drill core samples reported above were collected from HQ diameter core except for NQ2 sized core from holes 07JD068-069. All samples were prepared from 1m intervals of core halved by diamond saw. Analytical results contained in this release are from 1,000g samples analyzed using the Au by Screen Fire method except for samples from holes 07JD055, 062 and 067 which were analysed by Fire Assay with gravimetric finish on a 30g sample. All analyses were conducted by ALS Chemex in North Vancouver, B.C. ALS-Chemex is an internationally-recognized analytical service provider. In addition to laboratory standards Astral has included independently-prepared standards into the sample sequence to assure proper quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC).

Exploration work reported in this release was completed under the supervision of Astral's Project Geologist Dale Brittliffe, P.Geo. Technical information contained in this release has been reviewed by Dr. David A. Terry, P.Geo., Director and Vice President of Exploration for Astral Mining Corporation, and a Qualified Person as defined in National Instrument 43-101.

Astral is earning a 60% interest in the JJ Project from Kootenay (see April 12, 2006 news release).
