Athens Group Names Mark Cooper Chief Technology Officer

Appointment in Response to Continued Retail Practice Growth

AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwire - October 1, 2007) - Today, Austin-based consulting firm, Athens Group, announced that it has appointed Mark Cooper as Chief Technology Officer. In his role as CTO, Mark will be charged with driving innovation and guiding the technical strategy for the company's retail customers. The company is experiencing a 74% revenue increase for its retail practice over this time last year.

With a proven background of facilitating successful change, Mark has 19 years' experience as a technology and business advisor to Fortune 100 firms as well as smaller ventures. In his new role, Mark will continue to serve as a strategic advisor and leader of large-scale retail change initiatives for companies such as REI and the Lance Armstrong Foundation. His expertise includes technology strategy, enterprise architecture, business process management and software development and integration.

"Mark understands retail's unique technology challenges and has consistently delivered cost-effective solutions with measurable results," said Mike Haney, CEO at Athens Group. "The role of the CTO is to both guide our solutions development and help our clients determine how technology can best be used to implement their business strategies."

In 1998, Cooper helped launch Athens Group and has served clients in a variety of technical leadership roles. Prior to Athens Group, Cooper served as Vice President of Sterling Information Group, Senior Consultant for Andersen Consulting (Accenture), and as a Software Engineer for IBM. He also performs technology due-diligence assessments for private equity investors and M&A clients.

"Athens Group's retail practice continues to expand," said Cooper. "Retail technology portfolios are a complex mix of heterogeneous best-of-breed and legacy solutions that frequently prevent business technology leaders from supporting corporate growth and enabling rapid change. My goal is to help retailers achieve profitable growth by bringing practical services and solutions in the areas of business process improvements, legacy systems evolution and simpler, more effective integration."

Cooper will be serving as the business process expert on the "Power Panel" at this month's RILA Executive Invitational, "Key Drivers to Facilitating Retail Success" on October 8th in Albuquerque, NM.

Mark graduated with an M.B.A. in Information Systems Management from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.B.A. in Information Systems from Baylor University. He is considered an industry expert on Business Process Management and is frequently quoted in industry and business technology magazines.
