Aura Silver Initiates Drilling of Silver/Gold Targets Across Extensive Jasperoid Zone at Higo Blanco Project, Mexico

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - June 11, 2009) - Aura Silver Resources Inc. (TSX VENTURE:AUU) ("Aura Silver" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that a 1,500 meter drilling program has been initiated on the Higo Blanco jasperoid complex in Oaxaca, Mexico. The exploration program conducted by the Aura Silver/Intrepid Mines joint venture ("Taviche JV") over the past year has prepared the Higo Blanco project for drilling. This work has defined a very large area of silicified and mineralized limestone ie. jasperoid rock, which carry consistent silver and gold values in rock chip and trench samples. The geophysical survey (induced polarization ("IP") / resistivity and magnetic intensity) completed during early 2009 suggest both lateral and vertical continuity which will be tested by this current drill program.

Drilling will focus on the most highly prospective targets on the Higo Blanco Zone illustrated in Figure 1. Three type sections, the Cerro La Mina, the Mezcal and the Santo Nino vein systems are shown in Figures 2 to 4. All three targets have demonstrated high correlations between geochemical analyses and the recently completed IP/resistivity and magnetic intensity geophysical surveys.

Mapping has outlined a NW-trending structural corridor consisting of a well developed silver (gold)-rich vein system in the Cretaceous volcanic, epiclastic and sedimentary rocks, underlain by intensely silicified (jasperoid) and mineralized (Ag) Cretaceous limestone beneath these volcanics (Figure 1). The jasperoid deposits have been traced for over seven kilometres and may pass beneath volcanics to the southeast and into the Taviche JV's Alma Delia concession.

Sampling at Higo Blanco (approx. 715 rock samples) reveals a very large Au-Ag-As-Sb (gold, silver, arsenic, antimony) anomaly coincident with the distribution of the jasperoid as well as with quartz veining in the volcanics. Geochemical studies indicate a vertically zoned metal distribution; gold, arsenic and antimony are most abundant in veins at higher structural elevations whereas silver is enriched in an underlying jasperoid unit. Interpretation of IP profiles indicate that the sulphide contents in the silicic jasperoid rocks increase with depth and, in general, are most abundant adjacent to suspect 'feeding' structures.

Robert Boaz, President and CEO of Aura Silver stated, "This drilling campaign is designed to confirm that silver and gold mineralization is continuous between the Santo Nino, Mezcal and Cerro La Mina areas (greater than 2 kilometers) and that grades continue to improve with depth".

The drilling program will take about six weeks to complete and results will likely be reported mid to late summer. The Taviche JV has full support of the local community which will be supplying a dedicated work force to help with the program.
