Avasant Hosts Global Event Marking the Era of "Transboundary Sourcing Innovation"

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - February 8, 2010) - Michael F. Corbett, chairman of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) and Kevin S. Parikh, CEO & Senior Partner of Avasant, hosted an IAOP event last week on sourcing innovation in the global economy. According to Michael Corbett, "We're coming off a year of tremendous pressure and the outsourcing industry is at an inflection point entering into the next decade. With increased competition globally, outsourcing will experience significant growth in new and emerging locations as traditional boundaries are erased." Said Kevin Parikh, "Sourcing innovation in the global economy will proceed without borders as innovation will not just come from 'developed countries,' but increasingly from previously unexplored sourcing destinations such as Africa. We are finding today's developing nations are following India's example using the 'intellect of people' to drive both economic growth and to achieve political stability."

One of the key presentations on "Transboundary Sourcing Innovation" was delivered by Dr. Anil K. Gupta, who is widely regarded as one of the world's leading experts on strategy and globalization (Professor Gupta is the INSEAD Chaired Professor of Strategy and the author of over seventy papers and four books -- the latest "Getting China and India Right" as published by Jossey-Bass/John Wiley in February 2009). Additional innovation insight and a unique industry perspective was provided by Ed Altman, who recently joined GlobalLogic as head of their Digital Media practice after a distinguished career in the Media & Entertainment Industry with TCS, MGM (where he served as Chief Information Officer), Twentieth Century Fox and Paramount Pictures.

"Some of the strategic implications for Multi National Companies are for them to become 'hard-core' about every one of the big emerging markets now, not five years from now," said Professor Gupta. "One has to build a multi-track strategy, act with speed, and maintain dominance in the developed markets." Ultimately, Professor Gupta's presentation focused on how tomorrow's winning organizations will globalize the corporate mindset.

Ed Altman's presentation titled "Digital Media: Content Companies Best Friend AND Worst Nightmare" focused more on what the future holds within the wide-ranging scope of digital media. "Legacy profit dollars from analog and physical businesses such as DVD's, CD's, and printed newspapers are declining," said Altman. "In contrast to the digital profit pennies from digital businesses such as Music and Mobile Media will continue to grow."

This event, which took place on February 3, 2010, in Newport Beach, California, marked the inaugural launch of the IAOP's Transboundary Sourcing Innovation Topical Chapter and the re-launch of the IAOP's Southern California Geographic Chapter.
