Avior Integrated Products Inc.: Local Supplier Contributes to A380 Aircraft Technology

LAVAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - Nov. 8, 2007) - When Airbus' A380 makes its inaugural landing in Montreal on November 12, there will be a team of people clapping louder than most. Avior Integrated Products, with plants in Laval and Granby has on board its first composite proprietary product and power supply enclosure technology. This generation of products was entirely developed, designed and fabricated in-house to contain and protect the A380's Secondary Electrical Power System (SEPDC) Distribution Center. These enclosures are 30% of the weight of their metal counterparts (over 150 lbs less weight per aircraft) and their superior fire, smoke and toxicity capabilities all meet the latest and most stringent requirements of Airbus and the FAA / JAA.

For the last three years, Avior has been a risk-sharing partner with Honeywell Aerospace Toronto on the A380 program. President, Stephen Kearns says, "This is an exciting milestone for all of us. This Life of Program contract is worth nearly $100 million and we own the technology. That was an important strategic step for the company".

As more and more aircraft manufacturers develop lighter aircraft, primarily from composites, this new technology and product line should appeal to manufacturers of electrical power distribution systems for aircraft and military and civil helicopters. More significantly though, this product represents a dramatic shift for Avior. According to Joe Marcheschi, Director, Launch Programs: "Because we own this technology, we can now leverage it and promote it for other platforms such as the A350. This is a strategic move that will position the company as leader for this product line."
