The device allows local police departments to monitor "graffiti tagging" activity in real time. The unique characteristic of the TaggerTrap is that it is able to detect the digital signature of the ultrasonic frequency emitted by aerosol spray cans. When activated, sensors move the camera to catch and record the activity, creating video evidence to help prosecute violators in court.

The City of Montebello intends to deploy the devices around the city, including public parks and thoroughfares. At present, there are approximately 20 cameras in service, with an additional 100 expected to be installed by the end of 2007, for a total purchase price of $836,000.
