BFGoodrich Tires: The Driving Force Behind Canadian 'Cruising' Habits

LAVAL, QUEBEC--(CCNMatthews - May 15, 2006) -

Canadians Drivers Reveal How They Spend Time Cruising From Coast to Coast

-- 27 % of respondents rank Vancouver as the top spot in BFGoodrich/Ipsos Reid poll --

Before grabbing the keys and tearing up the roads, Canadian drivers consult their check-list when making decisions around one of their favourite pastimes - cruising. The key to awesome cruising involves careful planning as well as mapping out the best routes, selecting the perfect music, choosing the most romantic destinations and, most importantly, having the sweetest ride. A recent BFGoodrich/Ipsos Reid survey revealed just how Canadians plan and create their ultimate cruising experiences and gives a glimpse into the cruising habits of drivers from coast-to-coast.

"When it comes to cruising, people want excitement inside and out of their cars," says Silvia Mammone, Ultra High Performance Product Manager for BFGoodrich. "As passionate as the drivers themselves, BFGoodrich provides superior performance, aesthetics and innovation in all tire makes and models to help create the ultimate cruising experience."

From seascapes to mountain tops - selecting a route

Canadian cruisers clearly prefer to head west to take advantage of the ocean and mountain scenery during a leisurely ride. 27 percent of respondents prefer to cruise the streets of Vancouver versus other major Canadian cities. The results also revealed the preference of Ontario and Quebec drivers to cruise in Vancouver as nearly one quarter from each province (21% and 27% respectively) would forego cruising in their own regions in order to enjoy the dramatic vistas of the West Coast.

Rock and roll or Mozart - choosing favourite tunes

When Canadians want to get in the mood while behind the wheel nearly one third (32%) choose classic rock, like the Eagles or Van Morrison, as their tunes of choice. 32 per cent of old timers (55 +) select a more symphonic soundtrack and prefer to dust off the old eight track and cruise to the notes of Mozart or Beethoven.

Romantic rendez-vous

The West Coast is not only home to the most desirable roads, but also some of the best beaches in the country which were revealed through the survey as the number one destination of choice for half of Canadians (50%) when spending a romantic roadside rendezvous. During these steamy curb side encounters, performance and safety are key and should be considered both inside and out of the car by choosing the best rubber...tires, that is.

Safety first -- inside and out

According to the survey, driving and cruising safety are also top-of-mind, and when it comes to selecting tires, safety comes first. Over half of drivers choose safety as the number one factor when choosing tires (60%) over other elements such as aesthetics, warranty, and value. As Canadian drivers prepare their cars from the radio to the rubber they can be sure to depend on BFGoodrich tires for the ultimate cruising experience, on and off the road.

These are the findings of an Ipsos Reid/BFGoodrich poll conducted from April 4 to April 6, 2006. For the survey, a representative randomly selected sample of 882 Canadian drivers 18 years of age or older was interviewed by telephone. With a sample of this size, the results are considered accurate to within ±3.3 percentage points, 19 times out of 20, of what they would have been had the entire adult driving population been polled. The margin of error will be larger within regions and for other sub-groupings of the survey population. These data were weighted to ensure the sample's regional and age/sex composition reflects that of the actual Canadian population according to Census data.
