BIGresearch's American Pulse(TM) Survey: Put on Your American Flag Lapel Pin Barack Obama, Expressing Patriotism Good for America, Build the Border Fence, But Do It Cost Effectively

Americans Are Patriotic & Worried About Homeland Security


COLUMBUS, OH--(Marketwire - October 23, 2007) - Barack Obama's recent comments about why he no longer wears an American flag lapel pin don't square with the majority of Americans, according to the latest BIGresearch American Pulse™ Survey of 4,065 respondents. 52% of respondents disagree or strongly disagree and 19.5% agree or strongly agree with his feelings.

78% do not believe they need to prove their patriotism before they can express their patriotism, such as fly a flag or wear a flag lapel pin. 64% agree or strongly agree these types of expressions are good for America.

Regarding the War in Iraq, 44.2% would like to see American Troops withdrawn either immediately or within the next six months. 16.7% want the Troops back within a year and 33.6% think that Troops should not be withdrawn until the job is done. 5.5% have no opinion.

Other key findings:

--  48.3% agree that a border fence should be built between the U.S. and
    Mexico to control illegal immigration. Another 29.1% agree but think there
    are better ways to spend Government money.
--  51% worry that Homeland Security isn't doing enough to prevent future
    terrorist attacks.
--  41.4% feel terrorism will not increase if Troops are withdrawn from
    Iraq, 36.3% think it will and 22.3% don't know.
--  58% think Global Warming will affect them in their lifetime.
