BLADE Network Technologies Concludes Its Fiscal 2009 With Record Shipments, Growth and Market Share

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - February 4, 2010) - BLADE Network Technologies, Inc. (BLADE), the trusted leader in data center networking, enters 2010 well positioned to sustain its record-setting growth and address demand for faster, virtual and proven enterprise data center networks. In 2009, BLADE posted its highest shipments ($79 million), double digit growth and record market share gains since its establishment as an independent company in February 2006. In August 2009, BLADE also closed a Series B funding round valuing the company at $240 million. 2009 was also a landmark year in expanding the company's strategic alliances with major partnership agreements with several companies including Juniper Networks and Netezza. The company also took aggressive steps to expand global sales and distribution operations. The company surpassed 7.5 million data centers ports installed and is well on track to exceed $100 million in shipments in its FY2010.

"Our record-breaking business performance in 2009 was driven by our single-minded focus on the interconnect fabric for data centers, time-to-market advantage with innovative data center networking, virtualization, and management solutions, as well as our passionate commitment to customer service," said Vikram Mehta, president and CEO, BLADE Network Technologies. "As the battle for leadership in the data center escalates in 2010, we intend to expand our strong partnerships with leaders in server, storage, and virtualization infrastructure and leverage our market-leading position in low-latency, lossless, low-power and low-cost Ethernet fabrics. We also plan to expand and enhance our groundbreaking Unified FabricArchitecture to help businesses and service providers build the most scalable and efficient next generation data centers.

"BLADE's Unified FabricArchitecture is the industry's fastest, smartest, most integrable and most proven fabric that provides connectivity to over 7.5 million server and storage devices. It has a proven track record in helping customers deploy and manage their IT infrastructure at the lowest possible TCO and the smallest carbon footprint," Mehta continued. "BLADE's Unified FabricArchitecture is not on some theoretical drawing board, but is delivering exceptional and cost-effective data center networking for HPC, financial, Web 2.0, digital media and cloud computing networks today. We plan to continue leading the market with our VMready Virtual Machine-aware network virtualization, RackSwitch family and FCoE capabilities, as well as adding new products and technologies to our portfolio. We're excited about our roadmap for FY2010 and continuing to delight customers with data center connectivity, virtualization and management solutions that will enable enterprises to meet rising demand while reducing power, cost, space and complexity. We'd like to thank our loyal customers and partners for their support as we re-double our efforts to be an even better partner and supplier in 2010 and beyond."

"The IT industry's key growth area remains in the data center where BLADE Network Technologies has carved out a solid position in networking," said Lucinda Borovick, research vice president, Datacenter Networks, IDC. "Key requirements for virtualization, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, green IT, private and public cloud and HPC-class computing in mainstream enterprises and ultra-low-latency in the finance industry play well to the company's strengths."

In addition to record-breaking financial results for its fiscal 2009 and fourth quarter ending October 31, 2009, BLADE's key milestones include:

Customer and Partner Comments

"BLADE is well aligned with Juniper Networks in our commitment to reduce the total cost of network ownership while providing the high performance, scalability and virtualization required by today's dynamic data center environments," said David Yen, executive vice president and general manager, Fabric and Switching Technologies Business Group at Juniper Networks. "Together, Juniper Networks and BLADE address some of the most challenging connectivity needs for next-generation networks."

"DAS-3 is an ambitious High Performance Distributed Computing (HPDC) environment prototyping various novel protocols and systems for the processing and sharing of very large amounts of data on a computational grid," said Professor Henri Bal, ASCI. "In the large-scale use cases investigated on our system, often much higher bandwidths, lower latencies and more consistent network performance are required than would be typical for enterprise environments. For our project, we chose the BLADE RackSwitch equipment specifically based on its rich functionality combined with excellent price/performance."

"BLADE Network Technologies' switches with VMready network virtualization for the IBM BladeCenter along with VMware vSphere / ESX 3.5 provides the majority of our 63 medical professionals with administrative software and patient data that operates securely and efficiently," said Madam Hélène Sol, IT director (Directrice Adjointe en charge des Systèmes d'Information), Centre Hospitalier d'Avignon, France. "This deployment provides a high-availability architecture platform in two geographically separate computer rooms and fully meets our requirements for security, availability, scalability, processing speed, resources optimization and ease of ownership and administration."

"CariNet's Cloud Computing services, including our Cloud Center Datacenter as a Service, rely on BLADE Network Technologies' RackSwitch to provide security, costs savings and scalability while meeting specific business and technical needs," said Mark Ortenzi, president of CariNet. "CariNet's cloud computing environment is only as strong and dependable as the hardware environment it runs on, which is why we leave nothing to chance in using BLADE's RackSwitch to deliver the best-of-breed networking essential for cloud computing."

"We are delighted to partner with BLADE Network Technologies in order to provide customers with Infortrend's EonStor G6 family with BLADE's 10G RackSwitch for network connectivity," said Thomas Kao, director of Product Planning and Global marketing director at Infortrend Technology. "These new EonStor products integrate BLADE's RackSwitch G8124 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch to provide the essential high-speed, low-latency fabric for data-intensive storage networking."

"By partnering with BLADE, Inspur can leverage BLADE's intelligent 1/10G Ethernet switches to provide high-performance, low-latency, greener network connectivity," said Liu Jun, general manager of Inspur High Performance Server Division. "More importantly, BLADE's VMready feature enables our enterprise clients to maximize their ROI in server virtualization with lower networking costs and ease of network management. For enterprise clients, customers evaluate network products from two strategic aspects: immediate needs to support business operation and growth -- will the products provide high speed, low latency, ease of management and low power consumption; and long-term technology choice -- does the product have a cloud-ready network virtualization function and an open architecture with support for multiple vendors' virtualization software. By partnering with BLADE, Inspur's solutions meet each of these customer requirements."

"When we decided to upgrade and expand our blade server infrastructure, we installed BLADE Network Technologies' switches for HP's BladeSystem c-Class servers," said Ian Tharme, Warwickshire County Council's production business consultant. "One of the key things this allowed us to do is run a Hotlink feature to enable failover between the server switches. It completely meets our needs as it is contained within the server enclosures and does not give rise to any incompatibility issues with our existing core network."
