BLADE Network Technologies Expands Leadership Positions in Strongest Segments of Data Center Networking Market

Company Continues to Emerge as Top Performer With Record Shipments of Top-of-Rack and Blade Server Switches

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - April 7, 2010) - BLADE Network Technologies, Inc. (BLADE), the trusted leader in data center networking, announced that the company posted its highest shipments to date in its first fiscal quarter of 2010. As one of today's most popular alternatives in the highly competitive data center networking market, BLADE holds leadership positions in the industry's strongest growth segments. BLADE is the number one supplier of blade server switches, selling through OEM partners HP, IBM and NEC. According to Gartner, BLADE is one of the top three suppliers of 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches based on port shipments.

"BLADE Network Technologies' continued strong growth with over 8 million switch ports installed to date reflects our leadership in the strongest segments of the market for enterprise data center network infrastructure," said Vikram Mehta, president and CEO, BLADE Network Technologies. "At a time when Cisco is embarking on major product line transitions that require customers to buy into a single-vendor approach, BLADE's top-of-rack and blade server switches deliver faster performance, lower latency, hypervisor-agnostic virtualization, greater energy efficiency and 100-percent interoperability with existing data center infrastructures -- all at a significantly lower cost than comparable Cisco products."

Mehta continued, "These combined advantages fueled shipments of BLADE's data center networking product lines to grow significantly with continued strong year-over-year and quarter-to-quarter growth in our first fiscal quarter of 2010. We are extremely pleased that our customers and partners worldwide continue to express confidence in our singular focus on data center networking and deploy our products in record volumes."

BLADE announced its highest annual shipments, double digit year-to-year growth and record market share gains for its FY2009. In Fiscal Q1 of 2010, BLADE grew shipments by more than 50 percent over Q1 of 2009 -- and continued growth over the previous two record-breaking quarters.

Recently, BLADE introduced its Unified FabricArchitecture™ (UFA), the industry's fastest, smartest, most integrable and most proven fabric that will eliminate cost and complexity of deploying physical and virtual data center infrastructure.

BLADE's momentum continues to accelerate across multiple fronts:

  • Continued product innovation, including:
    • Partnering with IBM for the industry's first integrated FCoE networking solution.
    • Industry product awards, such as Network World's Clear Choice award for BLADE's RackSwitch 8124
    • Enhancements to the RackSwitch product family and industry-unique VMready Virtual Machine-aware networking virtualization software
  • Global sales and support expansion
    • Appointment of former EMC vice president of EMEA, Eric Shefler, as senior vice president of Worldwide Sales
    • New global research and development facility in Wuxi, China, and appointment of a new R&D vice president for the Wuxi R&D center
    • Appointment of new country managers in France, Germany and Australasia.
  • New major partnerships including Netezza and SGI
  • BLADE holds a commanding market-share lead as the number-one supplier of blade server networking and has reached 8 million ports deployed
  • According to Gartner's recent "Market Share: Enterprise Ethernet Switches, Worldwide, 4Q09 and 2009" report, BLADE ranks as one of the top three providers of 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches for the midsize and large enterprise market, based on port shipments

BLADE's customer base includes more than 9,500 customers including more than 350 of global Fortune 500 companies, such as:

  • Two of the world's largest stock exchanges
  • Seven of the world's 10 largest enterprises
  • Five of the top 10 media companies
  • Five of the top 25 global banks
  • Four of the top 10 telecommunications companies
  • Five of the top 10 aerospace and defense companies
  • Six of the top 10 global electronics companies

"CariNet's Cloud Computing services deliver the industry's first 10G cloud infrastructure using BLADE Network Technologies' RackSwitch to provide the essential high-performance networking," said Mark Ortenzi, president of CariNet. "CariNet relies on BLADE as our trusted partner to ensure that our cloud computing infrastructure can scale dynamically with high-throughput, low-latency networking in order to power the most demanding cloud computing environments."

"The IT industry's key growth area remains in the data center where BLADE Network Technologies is an established provider of top-of-rack and blade server switch products," said Lucinda Borovick, vice president, Enterprise Communications and Datacenter Networks, IDC. "As the market continues to rebound, customers will continue to demand network infrastructure that provides performance, functionality and total cost of ownership advantages."

"In today's data center, the support of multi-vendor networks is no longer optional, it is essential," said Steve O'Donnell, managing director and senior analyst, ESG (Enterprise Strategy Group) EMEA. "Modern network architects have to be concerned with compatibility, extreme high throughput, low latency, multi-vendor virtualization, openness, reduced total cost of ownership, network convergence, cloud computing and energy efficiency, each of which are areas where BLADE delivers compelling value."

"Today's financial services enterprise data centers can gain exceptional efficiency and cost advantages by not tying their fortunes to a single vendor," said Kevin McPartland, senior analyst, TABB Group. "Utilizing a network platform that enables enterprises to deploy best-of-breed open solutions and avoid vendor lock-in allows financial services firms to create an infrastructure that can evolve quickly and provide the lowest possible latency -- both necessary to compete in today's capital markets."
