BLADE Network Technologies Wins Top Spot in 10G Data Center Switch Test

BLADE's RackSwitch Earns Network World's Clear Choice Award With Top Marks for Very Low Latency and Jitter, Lowest Power Consumption and Smallest Form Factor

SANTA CLARA, CA--(Marketwire - January 27, 2010) - BLADE Network Technologies Inc. (BLADE), the trusted leader in data center networking, announced today that BLADE's RackSwitch™ G8124 has received Network World's Clear Choice award in its test of data center switches. BLADE's RackSwitch G8124 delivered a winning combination of features and performance as well as top energy efficiency in Network World's lab test of top-of-rack 10G Ethernet data center switches. "We compared these products 10 different ways and subjected them to three months of grueling performance tests," wrote David Newman, a member of the Network World Lab Alliance and president of Network Test, an independent test lab and engineering services consultancy.

Network World's tests rated features, management/usability, power consumption, unicast scalability, unicast/multicast throughput, unicast/multicast latency and jitter, multicast group capacity, multicast join/leave delay and link aggregation fairness. BLADE's RackSwitch received top marks for very low latency and jitter, lowest power consumption and smallest form factor.

"Given that electricity is a major cost for any datacenter, it's not surprising that networking vendors have started to focus on power efficiency. The clear leader in the power-measurement tests was Blade's [RackSwitch] G8124," wrote Newman. "It drew less power in the worst case than most other switches' best-case numbers. Notably, the G8124 was the only switch to use proportionately less power with fewer transceivers attached."

"We're delighted that BLADE's RackSwitch G8124 was chosen as a Clear Choice winner after months of grueling testing against tough competitors," said Dan Tuchler, vice president of Strategy and Product Management. "Network World's evaluation demonstrates why BLADE Network Technologies is both a market and technology leader and the top choice for low-latency, lossless, low-power and low-cost data center enterprise networking.

BLADE's RackSwitch has a considerable competitive edge in enterprise data center capabilities, server virtualization and redundancy, with differentiated functionality that includes:

-- Very low latency and jitter, lowest power consumption and smallest
    form factor.
-- Full range of networking features, such as QOS, Private VLAN, VRRP,
DiffServ, IGMPv3 Snooping, SNMPv3, RMON, RIP, Hotlinks, etc.
-- ACLs that can be applied to data plane traffic, multi-area OSPF and
    Active Multi-Path (AMP).
-- Converged Enhanced Ethernet (CEE) Ethernet standards that allow
customers to converge their LAN, SAN, and management networks onto a single
-- vNIC to carve a single 10G server connection into up to four virtual
NICs where each virtual path can have the bandwidth allocated in 100Mbps
-- VMready Virtual Machine-aware network virtualization.
-- Server rack-friendly back-to-front or front-to-back airflow.

BLADE's RackSwitch G8124 is an ultra-low-latency 1U top-of-rack, loss-less 10GbE switch equipped with 24 SFP+ (Small Form Factor Pluggable) ports and redundant AC power supplies. BLADE's RackSwitch products incorporate BLADE's VMready™ technology to support Virtual Machine environments and are designed for top-of-rack server and storage connectivity as well as aggregation layer data center switching.

BLADE Network Technologies is one of the top three suppliers of 10 Gigabit Ethernet switches, according to Dell'Oro Group's 3Q09 Ethernet Switch Quarterly Report, and has an installed-base of more than 7.5 million data center Ethernet ports.
