BUILDER Magazine Bestows 26th Annual Builder's Choice Awards

WASHINGTON, DC -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 12, 2006 -- BUILDER magazine presented the 26th Annual Builder's Choice Design and Planning Awards Thursday evening at the Ritz Carlton in Washington, DC. The magazine also inducted three building professionals into the Wm. S. Marvin Hall of Fame in recognition of their achievements and contributions to residential design.

The three inductees are:

-- Mark McInturff, FAIA, McInturff Architects, Bethesda, MD.
-- Mark R. Scheurer, AIA, Scheurer Architects, Newport Beach, CA.
-- Taylor Woodrow Homes, Bradenton, FL.

"Marvin proudly recognizes this year's inductees as clear leaders in the field of residential design," said Susan Marvin, president of Marvin Windows and Doors. "Through their award-winning designs and industry-leading building philosophies, the significant contributions of these winners continually breathe new life into the spirit of innovation in the building community."

In addition to the BUILDER - Wm. S. Marvin Hall of Fame induction ceremony, BUILDER presented the 2006 Builder's Choice Design and Planning Awards, which recognize excellence in residential design. Each year a panel of judges select the Builder's Choice Design and Planning Awards winners based on a set of criteria that include: innovation in architecture, efficiency in design and creative use of materials. This year's judges honored building and architecture firms with 58 awards in 29 different categories.

"We strive to recognize only the most outstanding projects," said Boyce Thompson, editorial director of BUILDER, the leading magazine for the residential building industry. "This year's winners are innovators in the industry and serve as an inspiration for other builders and architects."

The Builder's Choice Design and Planning Awards event was co-sponsored by Marvin Windows and Doors and Silestone by Cosentino.

The prestigious Project of the Year award was presented to EYA for their Chatham Square community. With its faithful colonial architecture, sleek interiors, waterfront location and walking proximity to retail, Chatham Square is everything an upscale urban dweller count want. And yet the project's major coup is its seamless marriage of public housing and luxury townhomes in one of the nation's hottest real estate markets. An ingenious building concept, deftly conceived and executed by EYA and Lessard Group Architects, allows rental and market rate units to coexist, side-by-side, in a formation that renders them virtually indistinguishable from one another. This handsome and dignified prototype for community revitalization is one that could easily be replicated in other cities.
