Vancouver Studio Wins Two National Design Awards

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 11, 2007) - Local ideas studio BURNKIT won two national awards this week in Applied Arts' annual Design and Advertising Awards (click here for photo: http://www.ccnmatthews.com/docs/BURNKIT.jpg). BURNKIT triumphed in the public service and charity category for Vancouver Sculpture Biennale's website, and in the experimental category for Mondonation's charity-oriented website.

The Vancouver Sculpture Biennale is an 18-month installation of major public art sculptures. The BURNKIT-created website, vancouverbiennale.com, mediates public interaction with the 22 international sculptures, highlighting Vancouver's prized public spaces. The online photo contest gives the photography community an incentive to look twice at the city's seemingly familiar landscape.

Working with the unconventional and entrepreneurial charity-meets-fashion project mondonation.com gave BURNKIT a chance to dream alongside Mondonation.com's Founder Ward Bingham. Armed with the ripple effect idea caused by positive beliefs, mondonation.com is an online portal for people wanting to express their personal beliefs on t-shirts and pillows. The site uses photos and video to guide the process while enabling consumers to give to one of Mondonation's listed charities.

"We love being involved in projects that align with our values," says Josh Dunford, BURNKIT's founder and director of business. "When your client trusts you, it shows in the work."

BURNKIT's award winning work can be seen in the new Applied Arts magazine, hitting newsstands this week.

BURNKIT is a small group of thinkers, dreaming up fresh new ideas for carefully chosen clients. Working as a team, listening and debating... trusting each other, but pushing each other to make the work the best it can be.

Co-founded by Josh Dunford and Adam Neilson in 2000, BURNKIT now has a team of 12 like-minded but diverse professionals. Industry veteran, and internationally recognized creative director, Bruce Sinclair became the studio's third partner in 2006.

Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. has been BURNKIT's client for 4 years. BURNKIT designed us.playstation.com for the PSP and PS3, a site now averaging 1.5 million hits a day.

BURNKIT's growing client list includes Future Shop, Coast Capital Savings, architects mcfarlaneGreen and Battersby Howat, Steadyhand and UBC Alumni Affairs.

"Still unclear about what BURNKIT is?", says Bruce Sinclair, BURNKIT's creative director and partner. "It's whatever it needs to be, on any given day, to make the work that will get noticed."
