BakeSpace.com Earns 2010 Webby Award Nomination for Best Social Network; Competes Head-to-Head Against Twitter and Digg.com

Fans Can Vote to Help Grassroots Food Site Beat Much Larger Competitors for Webby People's Voice Award

LOS ANGELES, CA and NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - April 15, 2010) - It's David versus Goliath, but this time Web-savvy home chefs have a chance to determine the outcome as BakeSpace.com competes for the 2010 Webby People's Voice Award for Best Social Network.

The grassroots online food community and recipe swap has been nominated alongside Twitter and Digg.com as one of the Web's five best social networking sites.

As a nominee, BakeSpace is competing head-to-head with these dominant sites in a quest to win both the Webby Award (which is decided by a panel of distinguished judges) and the Webby People's Voice Award (which is voted on by the public).

BakeSpace fans, foodies and anyone who supports the underdog can cast their vote for BakeSpace in the People's Voice Award at http://bit.ly/vote4bakespace.

The deadline to vote is Thursday, April 29th. Voting is quick and easy. Instructions and a related video by BakeSpace Founder Babette Pepaj are on the BakeSpace community blog at http://bit.ly/wecandothis.

"We'd love to bring home the top prize for our members and prove that an independent grassroots site like BakeSpace can beat the big guys head-on," said Pepaj. "Our site was built by and for people who are passionate about food, so winning would be akin to adding a cherry atop what is already the Web's tastiest social network."

This is the second year in a row that BakeSpace has been nominated for a Webby Award for Best Social Network, and the fourth consecutive year that the site has earned either 'Award Nominee' or 'Official Honoree' status.

Hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by The New York Times, The Webby is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.

"Nominees like BakeSpace.com are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of the Webby Awards. "It's an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the nearly 10,000 entries we received this year."

Webby Award and Webby People's Voice Award winners will be announced on May 4th, and honored at a star-studded ceremony in New York City on June 14th.
