Best Kept Holiday Secrets by the Bay - Free Parking, Gingerbread Houses & Shopping in Sausalito

SAUSALITO, CA--(Marketwire - December 1, 2009) - There are a lot of reasons why you should shop in Sausalito this holiday season, not the least of which is that the metered street parking is FREE all month! The Sausalito City Council has voted once again to support local merchants by waiving parking meter fees on City streets. The stockings are hung by the chimney with care, and so are the parking meter signs inviting residents and visitors to park for free.

"The City wants to do all it can to encourage holiday shopping and commerce in Sausalito," said Sausalito Vice Mayor Herb Weiner. "The parking is one small gesture."

Tom Gangitano, owner of Gene Hiller's Menswear in downtown Sausalito, applauds the City support and said, "It's a special time of year in Sausalito -- the tourist buses and out of town crowds have disappeared; the locals get to reclaim their town! It's the best time of year for Bay Area locals to visit Sausalito and shop the many unique boutiques, as well as experience the wine tasting and dining delights in the area. Free parking makes it simple and easy and all the more attractive. It's really the best kept secret this time of year."

In addition to Sausalito's free parking, waterfront ambiance, cozy cafes, restaurants and unique shops, there is Sausalito's Annual Gingerbread House Competition & Tour, sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Fabulous culinary creations are on display throughout town at 23 establishments:

Angelino, Bay Model, Bluebird Yarns, Bryson Insurance, Caffe Piccolo,
Cavallo Point Lodge, Ciao Bella, Café Cibo, City of Sausalito, Core
Pilates, Dis & Dat, Horizons, Hubba Hubba, ITK Culinary, Jewelry by
the Bay, Open Water Rowing, Pacific Heights Cleaners, Sausalito
Police Dept, Sausalito Pottery, State Farm Insurance, Sushi Ran,
