BigFix Ships Data Leak Prevention Update

BigFix DLP Is SC Magazine's "Best Buy"

EMERYVILLE, CA--(Marketwire - November 7, 2007) - BigFix®, Inc., a global leader in real-time IT security and management solutions for the distributed enterprise, has released an updated version of its data leak prevention (DLP) product, which incorporates performance improvements and functional upgrades since the product's initial rollout earlier this year. BigFix DLP addresses "inside out" threats to enterprise integrity and reputation with real-time data leak monitoring, detection, and pre-emption on enterprise servers, desktops, and mobile devices.

BigFix DLP builds on the real-time visibility and control capabilities of the BigFix Platform and its massively scalable, single-agent, policy enforcement architecture. BigFix DLP enforces anti-data leak policies on computers, regardless of their location or current connection status. DLP policies can include routines that identify and block transfer of sensitive data, such as files that carry credit card or social security numbers. It also allows network administrators to log and block data encryption and data transfer through a variety of exit points including USB thumb keys, corporate email, Webmail, and instant messaging programs.

"Organizations are facing increasing pressure from mobile devices that leave the network perimeter carrying sensitive information, many times in violation of corporate policy," said BigFix CTO Amrit Williams. "BigFix DLP is designed to easily manage and enforce IT Policy on fixed and mobile assets, wherever they are located, and independent of network connectivity. BigFix DLP provides highly accurate and continuous data leak prevention on any desktop, server or mobile device, anytime, anywhere."

Product Review Perfect Score

The unique qualities of BigFix DLP have been recognized by SC Magazine, which has named BigFix DLP as "Best Buy" in its Data Leakage Prevention Group Test, November 2007 issue. The product scored the maximum five stars in all five SC Magazine test categories: ease of use, performance, documentation, support, and value for money. BigFix DLP was the only product in the group test to achieve such high results, an extraordinary result for a product undergoing its first independent review against established players in the market.

The SC Magazine Group Test highlights the fact that DLP technology is now "a major piece of the enterprise security tool kit." Data leaks damage organizational reputations and good will, and can expose organizations to liability claims and litigation. Industry analyst group Gartner has defined the data leak prevention market as in its adolescent phase -- one which is experiencing rapid growth and innovative entries. Gartner predicts that the market will triple in value in 2006-2007, reaching $120 million to $150 million(1) by the end of this year.

The SC Magazine review team recognized BigFix DLP's endpoint-centric policy execution as a key differentiator against competing products. They described BigFix DLP as "unique [...] in this market in that it does everything at the endpoint," and highlighted its "ease of use and deployment, good pricing, and comprehensive protection." Overall, SC Magazine assessed the product as providing "powerful agent-based endpoint data leakage protection -- for both data moving on the network and through peripherals -- at a very good price." BigFix DLP Highlights

BigFix DLP quickly and unobtrusively prevents data leaks without compromising legitimate communications through content-aware endpoint enforcement of IT and regulatory policies, and provides on-demand scanning of all confidential data throughout the organization. Because the management intelligence for the solution resides on the endpoint and contains its own content-matching capability, BigFix DLP provides the unique capability to secure managed endpoints, at global scale, that are not hard-connected to the network. This is particularly critical in that many serious data breaches result from lost or stolen laptop computer incidents.

Built on the BigFix Platform, BigFix DLP performs rapid detection of sensitive data to monitor and prevent leakage to local devices, network interfaces, and network applications using a patented content-matching engine combined with the BigFix agent. In addition, it can scan data before its encryption to evaluate policies pertaining to the data. The solution can intelligently block the transfer of confidential data through USB, Firewire, PCMCIA memory card, Bluetooth, WiFi, IrDA infrared communications, serial and parallel ports, including USB thumb drives, flash cards, and other storage devices.

BigFix DLP can completely disable printer ports and CD-ROM/DVD devices when sensitive information is resident on a computer, and it also monitors connections to personal email services, instant messaging systems, web sites (http and https), and ftp servers. The product generates audit logs and reports in real time, and displays them on the BigFix console for single-point management.
