BioCentury Appoints Thomas C. Carey, a Proven Healthcare Industry Leader, as Vice President of Commercial Operations

REDWOOD CITY, CA--(Marketwire - August 7, 2008) - BioCentury Publications, Inc. has appointed Thomas C. Carey as its Vice President of Commercial Operations. Mr. Carey brings a proven track record of successful leadership in business operations, sales and marketing management, and business and corporate development with major life sciences companies. He will be responsible for leading the sales organization, product and event marketing, and partner management in addition to being a key member of the senior leadership team at BioCentury.

Previously, Mr. Carey was Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Connetics Corporation, a $220 million company focused on dermatology. At Connetics, he was responsible for leading the commercial organization, which included sales, sales operations, marketing, professional relations, and strategic accounts. Prior to Connetics, he served as Vice President of Professional Sales as well as Vice President of Business Development at OrthoNeutrogena, a division of Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. He also has held senior management positions at Roche Laboratories, Inc. and Syntex Corporation.

Mr. Carey holds an MBA in marketing and general management and a BA in biopsychology from the University of California, Berkeley.
