Bivio Networks Announces Addition of Argus Open Source Software to Its Application Library

Industry-Leading Open Source IP Audit Tool Widely Used by Government Agencies, Universities and Corporations for Flow Analysis and Report Generation Now Certified on Bivio 7000 DPI Application Platform

PLEASANTON, CA--(Marketwire - January 26, 2010) - Bivio Networks, the leader in networking systems for deep packet inspection (DPI)-enabled applications and services, today announced the addition of Argus, the Audit Record Generation and Utilization System, open source software to the Bivio Networks Application Library. Argus, a real-time high performance network flow monitor, is now certified to operate on the Bivio 7000 DPI Application Platform.

"Government agencies need the ability to easily leverage open source network solutions best-suited to ensure superior network security and unparalleled analysis capabilities," said Tim Waters, vice president of marketing, Bivio Networks. "Argus is an extremely robust flow analysis software tool widely deployed across government agencies. We are pleased to have it certified on our market-leading high performance Bivio 7000 DPI Application Platform and as an addition to the Bivio Networks Application Library."

Argus is used by many government agencies, universities and corporations to provide better visibility into traffic traversing their networks and establish comprehensive network activity audits for their enterprise. A growing number of Argus users are now using the data to support network operations management and end-to-end performance analysis.

Many sites deploy technology like open source Snort® and Bro, both of which are included in the Bivio Networks Application Library, to generate events and alarms about potential security threats, and then implement the Argus network audit open source software to provide context for such alarms, helping network managers decide if the alarms relate to real problems.

The audit data that Argus generates is ideal for network forensics, non-repudiation, network asset and service inventory, behavioral baselining of server and client relationships, detecting very slow scans, and supporting Zero day events. The network transaction audit data that Argus generates can also be used for a wide range of other tasks, including network billing and accounting, operations management and performance analysis.

"It's very exciting to have Argus open source software certified on the Bivio platform," said Carter Bullard, President and CEO of QoSient, LLC. "Many of our users have already chosen Bivio as a part of their network architecture, and it's great that they can just drop Argus into this high performance environment."
