Blogging Attracts a Larger, More Diverse Crowd

NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwire - August 7, 2008) - Internet usage has evolved greatly in the past few years. People today use it for a variety of reasons, such as networking, keeping in touch with family and friends, shopping, and doing research. With the ever-growing dependence on the Internet for communication and information, people are also becoming more active in creating their own web content, like blogs. Blogging is becoming an increasingly mainstream activity, attracting a broader segment of consumers who actively write, read, and/or comment on blogs.

While many people may still have the idea that the majority of active bloggers are tech-savvy teenage boys, this does not seem to be the case. According to the Simmons New Media Survey, today's blogging population now includes more women and older generations of people. Those who are actively posting content on the web do tend to be younger in age, but the age range of those who read or comment on blogs is broader.
