Bombardier Transportation Signs Groundbreaking Agreement With Two Local Partners in South Africa

New Alliance Leverages Investment and Industrial Capabilities for South African Market

BERLIN, GERMANY--(Marketwire - Nov. 29, 2007) - Bombardier Transportation announced today that it has signed an alliance agreement with Kagiso Trust Investments (KTI) and J&J Group (J&J), two of South Africa's prominent Black Economic Enterprise (BEE) investment and industrial companies. The new alliance will be known as the Bombardier Transportation Africa Alliance.

Commenting on the Bombardier Transportation Africa Alliance, Raymond T. Betler, President of Bombardier Transportation, Total Transit Systems, said, "Kagiso and the J&J Group are two of the country's most respected BEE companies. This strategic alliance strengthens our commitment to build viable rail infrastructure, which will contribute to the socio-economic development of South Africa."

Jayendra Naidoo, Chairman of J&J, said, "We have been investing in the rail sector for some time. J&J owns 30 per cent of the UCW Partnership, a leading rail vehicle manufacturer in South Africa. This new alliance with Bombardier and Kagiso complements our UCWP investment and is an important part of our growth strategy in the rail sector."

Bombardier has been active in South Africa for many years and has provided rolling stock refurbishment and spare parts to the South African Rail Commuter Corporation (SARCC), Metrorail and Transnet Freight Rail. In 2006, Bombardier Transportation's presence in the South African market gained significant recognition with the award of the Gautrain project to the Bombela Consortium by the Gauteng Provincial Government of South Africa.

Bombardier, as a member of the Bombela Concession Company, is designing and supplying all of the electrical and mechanical equipment, including the fleet of 96 BOMBARDIER ELECTROSTAR vehicles, and is providing 15 years of maintenance services for the Gautrain.
