Boston College Students Talk Tea With Cindi Bigelow of Bigelow Tea

Tea-rriffic! Students Rave About Their Favorite Study Partner - Tea

FAIRFIELD, CT--(Marketwire - January 27, 2010) - Cindi Bigelow, President of Bigelow Tea, recently paid a visit to her old alma mater, Boston College, to chat with students about tea. Captured in a short but exuberant video, called "Cindi Bigelow Returns to Boston College," students enthused about their love of tea and acknowledged the many benefits of their antioxidant-filled beverage of choice. Great for soothing a sore throat or warding off the dreaded cold and flu doldrums of winter, tea is definitely not a trend, but a permanent fixture at the Boston College campus.

For many college students, tea is their number one study aid because it helps them relax and concentrate. Why does tea have this positive effect? As Cindi explained to attentive sophomores and seniors, "Tea contains l-theanine and this actually does relax you. You feel the caffeine, but you metabolize it completely differently than coffee. So, it's a gentle rise, keeping you going for much longer and then, a gentle decline."

In fact, studies have shown that l-theanine stimulates alpha brain waves, increasing the production of dopamine and the end result is that it makes you alert, yet relaxed. Cindi's analogy was spot-on: "It's actually like yoga on your body; it stimulates your mind, but relaxes your body."

And the students couldn't agree more.
