Boston Software Systems Announces Boston WorkStation Task Builders, the First Library of Wizards That Simplify the Process of Task Automation

Enable Hospitals to Quickly Automate Common Operational Tasks

SHERBORN, MA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- September 20, 2005 -- Boston Software Systems™, the leader in workflow automation technology to the healthcare market, today announced the launch of the Boston WorkStation™ (BWS) Task Builders, the first library of wizards designed to facilitate the scripting process for automating common tasks performed in hospitals. Each Task Builder will facilitate tasks performed with specific hospital information systems (HIS).

The first BWS Task Builder available is McKesson Star Data Entry Accelerator, which will enable McKesson Star users to easily configure an automated workflow for repetitive data entry requirements. Most commonly used for the regular and tedious job of updating the Service Item Master (SIM) or Financial Item Master (FIM) records, the Data Entry Accelerator uses a wizard format to walk users through the process of customizing an automated workflow for basic data entry tasks. This Task Builder is designed specifically for McKesson Star screens, making the setup very simple and customizable to the hospital's needs. In addition, notification to any number of users may be configured. Boston Software Systems plans to roll out additional Task Builders for other common tasks such as report configuration, and the addition or removal of system users.

Every organization has processes or workflows already in place to manage its business at any particular point. However, the proliferation of small manual tasks abounds in the hospital environment, creating points of failure for overall strategic information strategies. Additionally, the pervasiveness of HIPAA, electronic medical records and other regulatory requirements demands the availability of easy-to-use, cost-effective workflow automation and systems integration solutions for large, complex HIS which can overlook technical processes. By helping hospitals simplify the automation of the most common tasks, the Task Builders allow hospitals to extend workflow automation throughout the facility quickly and easily.

The Task Builders rely on the powerful scripting capabilities of Boston WorkStation, the leading workflow automation and integration tool used in healthcare. Boston WorkStation allows hospitals to automate tasks; develop complex processes; automate interaction with Web sites or integrate new applications, systems and devices.

"The BWS Task Builders are a logical extension of the BWS strategy. Boston Software Systems is the first scripting tool developer in the industry to take this unique approach to workflow automation. Because HIS are focused on large operational functions, small everyday tasks may become time consuming to perform. The Task Builders fill the need for hospitals to quickly automate these common tasks and create the time and resources to focus on more strategic demands," said Sara McNeil, president of Boston Software Systems.

The Boston WorkStation Task Builders are currently available at no charge to current Boston WorkStation 8.0 customers. Customers may go to the Task Builders Library at and download the specific Task Builders they need.
