Brampton Responds To Tsunami Tragedy: Flags Lowered,
Contribution Boxes Provided Around City

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 3, 2005) - In the wake of the
recent tragedies in South Asia, the City of Brampton is asking all
residents to join in providing much needed support for victims of the
disaster.

"Brampton has proven itself time and again to be a generous and giving
community in times of need," said Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell. "There
is a great need for generosity right now and I encourage all residents
to give what they can to the many great agencies providing aid."

Within 48 hours of the tragedy, the City of Brampton setup a
contribution box through the Canadian Red Cross and is currently
accepting donations at City Hall. At the recent Mayor's New Years Day
Levee, donations were accepted and the City raised more than $2000 in
only two hours.

"The generosity shown at the New Year's Levee was fantastic and I hope
that this support will continue in the weeks to come," said Mayor
Fennell. "This tragedy has affected so many people both around the world
and right here in our community. We grieve for those we have lost and
will continue to do whatever we can to help the survivors."

A special donation box has been setup at the City Hall Information
Kiosk, beginning Monday, Jan.3. Donation boxes will also be available at
all four Brampton Public Library branches and the Box Offices of the
Heritage Theatre and Lester B. Pearson Theatre as of Jan.10. Cheques
should be made payable to the "Canadian Red Cross South East Asia
Earthquake and Tidal Wave Relief" fund. For more information on the City
donation boxes please call 905-874-2000.

In addition, donations can be mailed directly to the Canadian Red Cross
National Office 170 Metcalfe Street Suite 300, Ottawa, Ontario K2P-2P2
and payable to the "Canadian Red Cross South East Asia Earthquake and
Tidal Wave Relief" fund. For more information, or to make a donation
online, please visit www.redcross.ca.
