Briggs Introduces Comprehensive Product Solutions for MDS 3.0

WAUKEGAN, IL--(Marketwire - April 16, 2010) -  Briggs, a leading provider of healthcare products to long-term care facilities for over 60 years, today announced the introduction of the most comprehensive MDS 3.0 product line in the industry. MDS 3.0 goes into effect October 1, 2010 and is expected to have significant impact on important aspects of long-term care operations. The new line includes a User's Manual, MDS forms, Care Area Assessments (CAAs), Care Plans, an Assessment Reference Date (ARD) Finder and online training courses to support facilities in the transition to MDS 3.0.

CMS requires every facility to have an updated MDS manual. Briggs' MDS 3.0 User's Manual provides item-by-item instructions for completion of the MDS forms. Based on clinicians' feedback, the manual is uniquely sized to fit in a user's lap and includes the manual contents on a CD. Several package options are available, including Briggs' exclusive FutureSafe™, which offers auto-renewal updates every year until the customer opts out. Briggs on-staff clinicians monitor the regulations for changes and provide updates automatically to purchasers in a clear red font so changes are easily identifiable. Briggs is the only company offering a two-color manual with a CD and color-coded updates in real time. These features make the Briggs User's Manual the most cost-effective solution in the industry.

Briggs' assessment forms are designed in three colors to call out critical areas of reimbursement and have highlighted look-back periods to ensure the forms are completed within the timeframe for best practice. With the significant increase in form size and complexity brought on by MDS 3.0, buying MDS forms from Briggs is now more cost-effective than ever.

Supporting the assessment forms are Care Area Assessments, Care Plans and the ARD Finder. Briggs' CAAs establish a timesaving, logical flow for assessing multiple problems, complications and risk factors, and directs staff to appropriate care plans to prevent patient complications. The Care Plans are a succession from the CAAs and are available in a variety of different formats with plenty of space to take notes. The pocket-sized ARD Finder is a handheld calendar wheel that is a simple, accurate method to determine PPS and OBRA timelines.

Briggs backs up its MDS documentation with a comprehensive MDS online training course, which is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The online training offers the choice of the full MDS course or individual interdisciplinary modules such as Activities, Social Services or Dietary. The course uses interactive modules to fully engage participants and offers a competency test to gauge the staff's proficiency.

"Briggs has been an MDS partner to long-term care facilities since the start. Facilities will feel confident and secure in their transition because we have identified every step they need to take in order to stay in compliance and maximize reimbursements," said Briggs Clinical Consultant, Karen Merk, RN, B.S., CRNAC.

The MDS 3.0 User's Manual and online training course can now be pre-ordered by calling 1.800.247.2343 or visiting www.BriggsCorp.com/MDS.
