British Columbia Lottery Corporation: $45 Million Lotto 6/49 Jackpot Won

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Aug. 7, 2008) - Last night's Lotto 6/49 jackpot, which ballooned to a whopping $45 million, has been won.

Two winning tickets, matching all six numbers, were sold - one in Ontario and another in Quebec. This means the huge jackpot will be shared, with each winner earning an estimated $22.5 million.

This was the largest ever advertised jackpot in Canada, originally estimated at $43 million, with a flurry of late sales taking it up to $45 million. It is not the largest jackpot ever awarded, however, as a group of 17 Alberta oil and gas workers shared $54.3 million in October 2005, exceeding the estimated jackpot of $40 million at the time.

This Saturday's jackpot is now an estimated $4 million.

Lotto 6/49 is the nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 6 p.m. (PDT). Players can purchase tickets at any lottery retailer or at BCLC's web site.
