British Columbia Lottery Corporation: Local Restaurateur to Shop Till' He Drops

RICHMOND, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(CCNMatthews - Jan. 16, 2007) - As the winner of the Lotto 6/49 Shopping Spree Contest, on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at 11:30 a.m., James Christopherson will embark on a mission to spend $64,900 in just six hours and 49 minutes in Burnaby's Metrotown at Metropolis.

"When I received a call from the BC Lottery Corporation telling me I had won, I initially thought it was joke! My wife was in the background telling me to hang up the phone," said an ecstatic James Christopherson, chef and owner of Pelagos Restaurant in Crescent Beach.

Christopherson entered the Lotto 6/49 Shopping Spree Contest this fall after purchasing a $10 Lotto 6/49 ticket. He received the good news just before Christmas, which he remarked was "beautiful timing" - and has been working on his shopping-spree game plan ever since.

A chef by trade, Christopherson has expressed interest in upgrades for his kitchen including appliances and new kitchen counters. He also mentioned that he and his wife would love to purchase double-pained windows and a big screen TV for their home. Christopherson, who is the father of two daughters, has also received requests for hockey equipment, toys and clothing.

The event will also feature an hourly draw in which shoppers can show their Lotto 6/49 ticket for a chance to win 30 seconds in BCLC's windy "money booth" where lucky winners will have an opportunity to grab up to $649 in cold-hard cash to spend on their own mini shopping-spree.

Lotto 6/49 is the $2-a-play nationwide lottery with a $4 million minimum jackpot that grows and grows until it is won. Draws for both take place every Wednesday and Saturday night.

British Columbia Lottery Corporation is a Crown Corporation reporting to the Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General through a Board of Directors. Its mission is to provide high-quality gaming entertainment in a socially responsible manner for the benefit of all British Columbians.
